UFC 129 Fight Card: Georges St-Pierre vs. Jake Shields (Full Video)
The countdown to UFC 129 officially began last night on Spike TV. However, I for one have been counting down for this main event for well over one year now. Check out the full video from hulu.com.
In April of 2010, Georges St-Pierre was already taking on welterweight contenders in the UFC who many MMA enthusiasts believed were unworthy.
On the other end of the spectrum, Jake Shields shocked the world by handily defeating Dan Henderson and defending the Strikeforce middleweight title. He came into that fight as a huge underdog, but silenced his critics and left the cage that night as a legitimate champion.
There really is only one way to find out who the best welterweight on the planet is. That is to lock Georges St. Pierre and Jake Shields in a cage together and see who comes out the victor.
We will all find out this Saturday night at UFC 129.
The remainder of the main card looks solid as well. Mark Hominick is coming off an impressive, technically crisp knockout of George Roop in his UFC debut. Now, he's gunning for the UFC featherweight title against a wrecking machine named Jose Aldo, who happens to be the No. 1 consensus 145-lb. fighter in the world.
Randy Couture also makes his octagon curtain call against the former UFC light heavyweight champion, Lyoto Machida. Couture is beloved by MMA fans across the world and is seen as a pioneer of the sport, especially in the United States.
Whether or not he can pull off a victory against a top-five light heavyweight in Machida this Saturday, there won't be a dry eye in the audience when he delivers his farewell speech.
Tune in to UFC 129 this Saturday, April 30, 2011, at the new start time of 9:00 p.m. Eastern time, 8:00 p.m. Central and 6:00 p.m. Pacific.
