NFL Draft 2011: 10 Teams That Could Land TCU QB Andy Dalton
The week before the NFL Draft, rumors fly and the order gets shuffled. It always has and always will. Where in the world will Andy Dalton land? Is he a first round or a second round pick? His name has been thrown around for the last 4 weeks and everyone has had a chance to see his skills. He has a good arm, great leadership, the know-how to win but he has red hair......seriously, that was a comment that swirled around the media. Here are the 10 clubs that could land TCU QB Andy Dalton.
No. 10 Dallas Cowboys, Round 2 40th Overall
1 of 10
This is a complete long shot but his name has been passed around at this spot. The Dallas Morning News even wrote about it in their blog and that is why it lands at #10. Dalton would be a great fit for the system, would sit and back up Tony Romo for a few years and it would feel like home. The downside, I don't think he will be around this late in the draft. Sorry Cowboys, this is a complete long-shot.
No. 9 Chicago Bears, Round 1 29th Overall
2 of 10
The Chicago Bears worked out Andy Dalton last week and not a whole lot was said about it. Most people think that is good news and I agree. They don't want to hype up potential picks. He would get to sit behind Jay Cutler and learn the system and there would be no pressure. The Bears are known for running the ball first and they could get back to that with Dalton. It's a possibility but not a definite choice by the Bears.
No. 8 New England Patriots, Round 1 28th Overall
3 of 10
This is another reach and one I haven't really heard in the media. I think he would be a good fit for the Patriots who wrapped up Tom Brady to a long term deal. For that reason I don't see them choosing a QB that early in the draft but if he is still around at this spot it might be too hard to pass up. The whole point is to get a good QB and have him sit and be groomed by the best.
No. 7 Indianapolis Colts, Round 1 22nd Overall
4 of 10
You can see the general theme going on here. Pick a good character guy to sit and learn from another good character guy. I think this is the smartest route for some teams. With Manning under center for the Colts, if Dalton is still on the board why not choose a sound QB to learn from the master. They are both proven winners who are smart and known for the ability to read defenses. I like this pick but don't see it happening.
No. 6 Minnesota Vikings Round 1 12th Overall
5 of 10
Yes, this is a stretch being this early but we are now moving on to some teams that need QBs and when you need something, you go and get it. The Vikes need a QB with Farve "hopefully" retiring for good and Jackson the number 1 guy again under center. They aren't desperate but are looking to the future and Dalton may be their guy.
No. 5 Tennessee Titans, Round 1 8th Overall
6 of 10
This is the latest rumor to start circulating and its gaining some steam. The Titans need a new QB in a big way and they may have to take one early. Both Cam Newton and Blaine Gabbert will be gone and Dalton might be the best fit for their system. There is a good possibility that Dalton goes at #8. Another possibility is the Titans trading back a few spots with the ability to still pick up Dalton.
No. 4 Arizona Cardinals Round 2 38th Overall
7 of 10
Another team that is in dire need of a QB. I don't see them picking up one with their 5th overall pick. If Dalton is still on the board this late, I see the Cardinals going after their 2nd Horned Frog in the last two drafts.
No. 3 Buffalo Bills Round 2 34th Overall
8 of 10
This is another great spot for Dalton to land. He can really bring his leadership and ability to win to a franchise that hasn't won anything in decades. The question is whether Dalton would have to play right away and how much time he would have to learn the system. Ryan Fitzpatrick should be tabbed as the starter and if he can hold the reins a while while Dalton learns, it could be a win-win situation.
No. 2 Cincinnatti Bengals Round 2 35th Overall
9 of 10
The Cincinnatti Bengals have not hidden their interest in Andy Dalton one bit. With Carson Palmer demanding a trade or retiring, the Bengals know they need a QB. I don't see them using their first round pick on one but a second rounder would be perfect. Offensive Coordinator Jay Gruden has been very interested in Dalton even to the point of flying down to the TCU draft workout in Fort Worth. Dalton would be a solid fit here.
No. 1 Seattle Seahawks, Round 1 25th Overall
10 of 10
And in the first round, with the 25th pick overall, the Seattle Seahawks choose Andy Dalton, quarterback from TCU. Overall, this pick just feels right. Its not too early and its not too late. The Seahawks should be able to shore up Hasselbeck for 2 more years and have an ok backup on board in Charlie Whitehurst. Ultimately they need to draft a QB and Pete Carrol won't let this one slip away. Dalton can bring his solid leadership, ability to win, skills to run or throw and get the job done in the Emerald City. I can see this happening Thursday night on ESPN.
