Same Old Bungles

Virgil GrossOct 11, 2008

Well In my first editorial about the Bengals I had written I had come down hard and heavy on a new guy they had gotten in the off season and also Chad Johnson after they had released Chris Henry .  It seems that the Bengals are worse than I could even have imagined and I can not put any blame on Chad Johnson.  He has not gotten the ball enough to drop it or to even prove he can do anything with it while as usual TJ is doing his terrific job but it takes more than one man to carry the team on his shoulders to win a game.  In football it takes a whole team.  Chris Perry has showed great promise thus far this season as a great running back to make up for the loss of Rudi Johnson, which I did not think would be even possible.  But I don't mind being proved wrong in such a good and refreshing way.  I do hope that they could at least win 1 game this season but if not then we can at least be assured of the number 1 draft pick coming next NFL draft and should we get a new quarterback or trade Chad Johnson and $10 million for a dependable receiver?  I don't think we can take a chance again for another season with Chad Johnson,  while also we need to concentrate heavily on possibly on some coaching changes and revamping the defense side as well.  But something that I had learned from the Army was that a team needs to have lots of training and practice and exercising which it seems to me that the teams does not have enough of.  I would like to spend at least a week to just watch them at practice to see what is going on and see what is wrong.  In most cases it can be a very simple cure to solve the problem.  As long as they have lights on the field the team can practice for up to 16 hours until they can finally get things right and win a game and prove they can play like a professional football team.  To some this might seem going over the top but for those like me who was in the Army this is nothing.  But I really don't want to be second guessing Marvin Lewis as when he first came here to Cincinnati I remember I had a lot of respect for him as both a man and as a coach and I don't think it is time for him to go but I have seen some calls he has made that has caused me to second guess his calls but then again maybe he had some bad information from some of his assistant coaches.

Well this is it for me for this report and editorial.
