The senior guard comes straight to the Sky after leading her Gonzaga Bulldogs to their first ever Elite Eight appearance. Vandersloot led the nation in assists for the second year in a row and play-making abilities won her the Nancy Lieberman Award, which is given out to the nation’s best point guard.
Among many accolades this season, Courtney made her mark in history, by becoming the only player—male or female—in NCAA Division I history to surpass 2,000 points and 1,000 assists.
Although Courtney has never played for a team outside Washington state, her impeccable shooting and natural court awareness will help her fit right in with the Sky.
“I’ve learned a lot about them in the couple of weeks,” she said.
According to the roster Vandersloot will be joining Tennessee’s Angie Bjorklund. Courtney and Angie are both from Washington State and have grown close over the years. Angie’s sister Jamie played with Courtney at Gonzaga University.
She will also be joining Michelle Snow, Epiphanny Prince, Dominique Canty, forward Shemeka Christon and center Sylvia Fowles.
