Texas Takes Down Oklahoma; Was it Impressive?

Joe Burgett Oct 11, 2008

As some of you by now, the No. 5 Texas Longhorns have beaten the No. 1 Oklahoma Sooners 45-35, and I couldn't be happier. I am not a Texas fan, but I really wanted this and today I pulled for the Longhorns.

You may be wondering why I pulled for them if I wasn't a fan, well I knew that if they lost, a SEC team like my Alabama Crimson Tide would probably move to the top; they are not playing today but its possible.

Anyway to Texas-Oklahoma; it was so high scoring, wow, and a nail-biter until the end, Oklahoma dominated the first quarter, but the second quarter here came Colt McCoy and the Longhorns. they got to within a point at half time to the Sooners.

It was a good half in my opinion for them, but then in the second half there were a lot of bogus calls by the refs. They really made them all game but the second half was the worst.

I mean they called a hit out of bounds on the same guy twice for once grazing him, and second for trying to help him from falling, but Colt McCoy really acts it out at the end and falls anyway. Good performance to Colt on that one.

Then the Oklahoma punter, not to be outdone, gets grazed by a defender, sees the ref and falls to the ground in agony and gets the call. I guess it was their first day on the job.

They really called a sloppy game. Even the interception in the end zone for Oklahoma was an interception; they called it just an incomplete pass.

I mean my grandmother knew he caught it, and she knows nothing about football. Other than the officials, it was a good game. Both Sam Bradford and Colt McCoy played really well in the Red River Shootout, and the game lived up to the name.

My favorite part was the big 80-yard drive by Texas toward the end of the first half; it's what propelled the Longhorns to the win.

I don't know if Texas will jump in the polls, but one thing is for sure: if they don't get at least No. 3 out of it, it may be the officials running the BCS too.

But what did you think? Did the Texas Longhorns impress you as they did me?
