Phoenix Coyotes: Future Held Up at the Cupcake Summit

Tyson AbaroaApr 22, 2011

Would anyone like a cupcake? Well, if you are about to decide the fate of millions of dollars in a city’s economic income, just sit back and relax with the Goldwater Institute as they decide the first order of business; ooey gooey, red velvet or coconut?

According to the Tucson Citizen, the Goldwater Institute wants to block the city of Glendale from assisting Matthew Hulsizer from buying the drowning Phoenix Coyotes franchise. In essence, the city wants to sell bonds to pay Hulsizer $100 million to buy the Coyotes, but the Goldwater Institute claims the city is trying to pull off illegal subsidies.

The NHL is probably just looking to dump the team anywhere. With Winnipeg gearing up to relocate the franchise to their original home, what is the Goldwater Institute thinking? The Institute wants to block a resolution to keep the Coyotes where they are?

Arizona has been hit hard by the economic depression and local businesses need every penny they can get. Fans attending games bring millions of dollars to the beleaguered area. Now, families of everyone in the organization, and the businesses around the Coyotes’ home are on pins and needles just wanting to know what the future holds. However, the Goldwater Institute is going to drag out an already painful process.

Will the Coyotes stay in Arizona? We may not know that but at least we know that the "ooey gooey" cupcake by Tammie Coe is the preferred cupcake of the Goldwater Institute.
