Can Korn Resurrect The Struggling Tigers?

It's never easy being the only Clemson fan who co-hosts a morning show on the flagship station of the University Of South Carolina Gamecocks. But this year, it's been more painful than a colonoscopy without Novocaine. Never has a team had some much pre-season hype only to see the season begin to unravel like a bad sweater.

Less than twelve hours after the loss to Wake Forest that displayed possibly the worst offensive game plan in Bowden's history,the rumours were swirling about Tommy's curtain call at the end of this season, or maybe sooner. Odds are that Tommy's tenure at Clemson will never make it to the 2009 season, but in the meantime, the Clemson faithful are seeking a spark, no make that a five alarm fire to save a season that had so much promise.

Enter Redshirt Freshman QB Willy Korn.

Tommy Bowden may have bought some time by naming Korn the starting QB for the Tigers when they take on Georgia Tech in Death Valley on October 18th. Former starter and pre-season ACC Player Of The Year Cullen Harper will not be happy about this, but the bleeding has to stop, and Korn has band-aid written all over him.

Granted he has had very limited playing time, but Korn possess the one thing a patchwork offensive line needs, a quarterback who is mobile and can scramble. Korn is one of the most highly touted recruits in Clemson history and would have been the eventual starter for Clemson last year, but Harper came suddenly burst on the scene and became one of the most efficient passers in the country in 2007.

2008 has been the just the opposite. Harper is struggling to throw down field and with an offensive line that looks like a MASH unit, he has barely had time to do so. 

Clemson kicker Mark Bucholtz saved Bowden's job last year with a final play of the game field goal to seal the deal against South Carolina, granting the head coach a repreive and a contract extension fueled by rumours of a possible move to Arkansas, but it seems unlikely that even Korn's golden arm can save Tommy this time. Maybe it will at least save the face of this year's Clemson football team.
