QPR Closing in on English League Championship

Jan StarrApr 22, 2011

Cardiff vs QPR

QPR are extremely close to securing the Championship, just three points away from doing so.

However, Cardiff will be in the way of preventing them from doing that this weekend at least as Cardiff have been extremely good in the last few matches.

They have won their last four matches and could complete their fifth consecutive victory, which could see them leapfrog Norwich into the automatic promotion places. It has been an incredible year for Cardiff so far, with the team being beaten only on five occasions since the New Year.

QPR might not be at the top of their form at the moment having just dropped points in two of their last three matches, but they will be looking to complete the task of securing the title this weekend itself.

Abel Taarabt is the main danger man for QPR and Neil Warnock will be looking to unleash his weapon against Cardiff in an effort to secure the title.

Cardiff cannot only think about Norwich alone as Reading are close to taking advantage of any slip-ups on the part of the Bluebirds this weekend.

Portsmouth vs Swansea

Swansea will be heading to Fratton Park after a gap of 27 years hoping to avoid the same result of a 5-0 thrashing by Portsmouth.

However, this time around, Portsmouth look to be the team that can be on the receiving end of such a thrashing as they are in a position to achieve nothing from this season.

Playoffs and relegation seems to be beyond Portsmouth, while Swansea have everything to play for including the outside chance of making it into the automatic promotion places. Swansea can overtake Reading this weekend, but that looks highly unlikely given Reading's incredible form of late.

A more realistic chance will be to build on the five-point gap that exists between them and Leeds. However, the poor form that Brendan Rodgers' side have been experiencing of late means that they will be more than satisfied with a draw.

Having lost their last four away matches, it is just about the best that Brendan Rodgers can expect at this moment.

Portsmouth will be without the services of Danny Webber and Richard Hughes, while injuries will not be posing too much of a problem for Swansea this weekend.
