Reaction to Jay Lethal Leaving TNA and What It Means for the Company

Anthony PetronzioApr 21, 2011

According to multiple online sources, Jay Lethal, also known as Black Machismo to longtime TNA fans, has left TNA Wrestling. I

t is unknown what his future endeavours will be, but I wish him the best of luck in whatever they may be.

TNA must now do what every wrestling company does when a talent is released, and that is simply move on. Unfortunately, this will be a bigger challenge for the company then they realize.

Jay Lethal's release carries huge implications, it is not just simply the release of a wrestler (a very talented one I might add). For months, TNA has been criticized for becoming too much like the WCW and WWE, and that Hulk Hogan and Eric Bischoff were taking TNA away from its original ways.

If this was TNA's response to these criticisms, it was one of the poorest choices they could've made. Jay Lethal was arguably the best X Division wrestler TNA had, and now an already depleted segment of the show suffered a humongous blow.

A question I asked myself when i heard this news was: Where is TNA heading now?

Who are they trying to appeal to? Certainly not to the fans that built the company up, because Jay Lethal was one of the most loved wrestlers TNA has ever had.

In 2010, Lethal showed his incredible mic skills to compliment his astounding in ring ability. I understand TNA wants to attract new fans, but all they are doing now is alienating the ones they've had from the beginning.

Outside of Fortune, longtime TNA wrestlers are being misused everywhere. Douglas Williams and Magnus finally got the TV time they deserve at Lockdown, but in the end lost their match.

Eric Young has been doing one of the worst gimmicks I've seen for half a year now. Samoa Joe has been the victim of botched feuds, and his one with The Pope D'Angelo Dinero did not live up to potential.

Matt Morgan should be a multiple time Heavyweight champion, but continues to get screwed and looked over for Mr. Anderson and RVD. Even the Knockouts have changed, as long time WWE Diva Mickie James is the champion.

Jay Lethal was one of my favorite wrestlers, and the X Division was one of the reasons I loved TNA so much.

It seems everyday TNA is inching closer and closer to the point of no return. This move does not show why TNA is a competitor to WWE, but instead shows why it's just another company the WWE will eventually crush.
