Is a moral victory possible against Texas Tech?

Don’t want to say ‘yes’ because you’ve got to aim high and this is college football, where anything happens.

The Husker can win. We can specifically point to penalties, bad punts, unnecessary offensive sacks, and missed tackles as the main culprit for the Huskers.

If those things improve, the running game will be helped tremdously.

Part of the problem is Joe Ganz is programmed to play like the Huskers are 21 points down in the first quarter (mainly because in most of his games, the Huskers have been behind by multiple scores) and they need to make it all 21 points ASAP. That begets scrambles that turn into sacks, that turn field goals into punts, turn 2 and 7 into 3 and 12, puts pressure on the o-line (which may increase false starts), forcing a throw where there isn’t a play, which results into 52-17 loss.

The good thing is HG believes these problems are fixable and if we can cut down on them, we can be competitive against the rest of our schedule.

So, back to the moral victory question, yes, a moral victory is possible.

Texas Tech has a well-oiled program filled with talented players and a balanced offense.

They also have a knack for going 8-4 and dropping some games that prognosticators would have them winning.

HG Expectation for Texas Tech: I expect the Huskers to be more competitive later in the game than  the Mizzou game. That’s not a high expectation.

But,  Texas Tech might be more “Virginia Tech” than “Mizzou” in terms of a overall test. I also expect them to play a much smarter game and have a chance to pull out a victory in the second half.

What I’m really looking for is improvement and progress. In my mind, I’ve chalked up TT as a loss in the big picture.

I can honestly deal with Mizzou beating the crap out of us in 2008. It’s a rebuilding year for us, while Mizzou has their greatest team in school history.

But I also expect the Huskers to step up their play, learn from their mistakes, and show improvement as the season progresses.

Remember, you have to be competitive before you can win. The Huskers haven’t even been competitive in many of their games in the past 365 days.

Bo, show me competitiveness this weekend.  That will be a moral victory.
