Dan Hardy Calls out Fellow UFC Star Brock Lesnar Via Twitter
UFC welterweight Dan Hardy is known as one of the toughest men in the sport, but he may be biting off more than he can chew with a recent half-hearted challenge to Brock Lesnar on Twitter.
On April 20, 2011, Hardy called out the former UFC heavyweight champion and current The Ultimate Fighter coach, using his Twitter account, @danhardymma.
@danhardymma
I think Brock Lesnar should give me some of his 5.3 million he has earned from MMA. I'd be more than happy to fight him for it too.
Of course, the UFC wouldn’t allow a fight like this to happen, given the massive difference in the fighters’ weights. At 170 pounds, Hardy would be conceding nearly 100 pounds to one of the biggest fighters in the sport.
Hardy is also known as a joker, so this is likely just a quick jab at a fighter who has had just seven professional MMA fights, but has already made enough money for just about anyone to live comfortably off of for the rest of their lives.
Whether it was a joke or not, the comment didn’t come without response from followers:
@hehateme6
you need to beat a half way decent fighter in your own weight class homie... So stfu
Hardy is 0-3 in his last three UFC fights after starting off 4-0 in his first four fights for the world’s largest mixed martial arts organization. He earned himself a UFC welterweight championship fight in March of 2010 against Georges St-Pierre, but was completely smothered by the champion in a one-sided decision loss.
Dan Hardy earned just $25,000 for his most recent loss to Anthony “Rumble” Johnson at UFC Fight Night 24 last month. To compare, Brock Lesnar earned $400,000 for his loss to Cain Velasquez at UFC 121.
Hardy is most likely joking about fighting Lesnar, but if the opportunity arose, he may very well take a fight with Lesnar just for the increased fight purse.
