UFC 129: Predicting the Fight, KO and Submission of the Night

Vince CareyJun 7, 2018

UFC 129 is going to be the biggest event in UFC history.

With 55,000 fans in attendance and a $11 million gate, that means the end of the night bonuses will likely be the highest ever, giving the fighters even more incentive to go out and earn themselves a little extra cash.

There are four current or former champions on the card, a four-time fight of the night winner, and three guys who have won multiple submission of the night awards.

It's not easy to predict the winners for any event, but when you get a line-up like this, it's almost impossible.

Here are some (probably wrong) predictions for the end of the night bonuses.

Submission of the Night: Mark Bocek

1 of 3

If there is an underdog that pulls out a victory on the main card, I'm guessing it will be Bocek.

The Canadian submission machine has earned a bonus in two of his last three fights and will be the hometown hero in Toronto.

Henderson will take the fight to the mat early and often, winning the first two rounds. But the former WEC champion will get sloppy in the third and get caught in a fight-ending rear naked choke.

Knockout of the Night: Jose Aldo

2 of 3

I tried picking someone else, (I even had a slide for John Makdessi typed up) but Aldo is the obvious choice.

Not only has he won 12 of his 18 fights by knockout, but he is facing an opponent who will attempt to stand with him.

Aldo will finish the fight, and it will probably be in one of the earlier rounds, giving Zuffa every reason in the world to give their new champion a bump in pay.

Fight of the Night: Nate Diaz vs Rory MacDonald

3 of 3

Part of me thinks the UFC will do whatever it can to give Randy Couture a bonus in what will likely be his last fight, but Diaz and MacDonald could give the fans an instant classic.

Both fighters have decent striking and could go to war on the feet, but even if the fight hits the mat there is a chance for either to pull off a submission at any time.

Diaz already has four FOTN bonuses on his resume and MacDonald earned his first one last June for his battle with Carlos Condit.

I have a feeling that they both add another on April 30th.
