UFC News: Jon Jones Says He Is Capable of Defeating Anderson Silva
It was reported last week when Anderson Silva spoke to Esportes.r7.com, he said he would never fight UFC light heavyweight hampion, Jon Jones, due to their friendship.
However, Jones was recently on ESPN.com and he says the middleweight champion is an idol to him and he wouldn't consider competing against him for now.
But that's not to say it won't happen.
"I would need to do some serious soul-searching to know that I’d beat Anderson Silva’s [butt]. I think I have the capabilities of doing it," Jones said.
The two friends fight in different weight classes and have recently become more like buddies, as Silva invited Jones to see the Brazilian's new documentary Like Water at the Tribeca film Festival, via Twitter.
While Jones hinted at testing his skills against Silva sometime in the future, for now, Jones would rather emulate Silva's style than compete against him.
"My goal is to reach a level of comfort in the Octagon where you don’t even process your thoughts,” Jones said.
“You just move as your body thinks it. That’s what I’m looking for is that level of comfort, that level of cool. That’s what I’m trying to get. I think Anderson’s close to that. That’s what I want.”
