MMA: Homophobic?
Why does everyone have to fit a certain profile to be an acceptable MMA fighter?
Did people question Chuck Liddell about his sexual orientation when he painted his toenails and wore flip-flops to show off his painted piggy-toes for the world to see?
I mean, how obvious could he be?
I do remember Chris Leben being questioned about painting his toenails, perhaps even after Chuck had come out with his every other toenail painted black trend. But then again, Chris Leben has been questioned about many things.
Now comes a new controversial toenail painter who was reported on another blog as having actually painted his toenails the questionable color of pink. Oh my!
Practically since the morning after Seth Petruzelli beat Kimbo Slice, questions about his behavior and sexual orientation have arisen.
Yes, he is married to a lovely young woman. But, he has worn a black leather attire to a costume party that hinted at S&M/bondage. Does that really indicate that he is gay?
So he paints his toenails pink and enjoys dying his hair different colors. So what?
Why can't an MMA fighter be whatever he wants to be? And, if he does happen to be homosexual, what would that mean to the sport of MMA?
Does sexuality affect his performance in the octagon? Would he be less of a fighter, or champion because of his sexual preference?
I think not.
Why can't people let well enough alone? Does anyone have a right to peek into another person's bedroom and poke around in his private life to discover all of his secrets?
I enjoy people from all backgrounds and all orientations. Many of my best friends and family members have been gay and I say, so what?
As much as I enjoy watching MMA, it has never occurred to me to worry about any of the fighters' sexual preferences. I don't see how that impacts their fighting ability at all.
I hate that there are those who think that everyone must conform to the same idea of "normal."
God would not have created us all with so many unique and different abilities if he wanted us all to be the same; he had that option and apparently passed on it.
What we do with our God-given abilities is more important in defining our lives than our conformity to some arbitrary ideal.
In the long run, what difference does it make that someone who may or may not be a homosexual finally dethroned Kimbo Slice?
Just be thankful that someone finally did.
Amen!
