WWE Draft 2011: How Zack Ryder Could Benefit From a Move To Smackdown

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 23, 2011

Zack Ryder has been with WWE for a few years now, but for the last year or so he has received little to no screen time on WWE television.

When he first showed up in WWE he was part of a tag team with Curt Hawkins.  They went by the name The Major Brothers.  Their similar appearance and size made it convincing that these two could be brothers in real life.

They debuted on the now defunct ECW and won their first match.  The two men would find little success before being paired up with Edge to join his La Familia stable alongside Chavo and Vickie Guerrero.

They first showed allegiance to the Rated R Superstar when they interfered in a match at Armageddon.  They dressed up like Edge and painted on his trademark tattoos.

During the match Ryder and Hawkins would take Edge's place several times in order to absorb some damage, allowing Edge to get the upper hand and eventually walk out the Champion.

Soon after joining Edge they won the Smackdown brand Tag Team Championships by winning a four team match.  The duo seemed to have a bright future.  They were teamed up with one of WWE's best heels and they were holding gold within their first year on the main roster.

Once WWE decided to disband the stable, Ryder and Hawkins were left without a purpose.  They would eventually lose their titles to The Colons and be split up when Ryder was drafted to ECW.

Ryder changed his image completely.  He cut his hair, put a bunch of gel in it to spike it up and donned a truly unique ring attire that featured one long leg and one leg the length of standard trunks.

This new look came with a new attitude as Ryder began showing the attitude of a cocky Long Island partier whose catch phrase is the ever addictive Woo Woo Woo, you know it.

Ryder looked to be on the rise again after getting a chance at the ECW title.  Even though he lost he made an impression in the match by standing toe to toe with Christian.

Another of Ryder's standout moments was a victory over Tommy Dreamer forcing the latter to leave the company in kayfabe.

ECW eventually died like everyone knew it would and Ryder was moved to the Raw brand.  Since the move he had yet to see any kind of a real push.  With WWE capitalizing on the popularity of Jersey Shore recently I am shocked that they didn't use Ryder more in the angle.

He has been portraying the guido gimmick far longer than that trash can of a show has been on the air, and frankly his youtube videos are thousands times more entertaining than any episode of Jersey Bore.

With the draft right around the corner I would look out for Zack Ryder.  He is someone in serious need of a change of scenery and Smackdown may just be the place for him.  he has been used in mostly a comedic way lately, and it has proved to be his strong suit.

His segment during WrestleMania 27, while short, showed he is more than willing to look like an idiot to get some time in the spotlight.  The fact that Santino Marella gets matches on a weekly basis and Ryder doesn't confuses me frankly.

I am looking to see Ryder move to Smackdown at the draft and hopefully the blue brand will be the thing that he needs to get going again.

Anyone who has yet to see Ryder's Youtube videos should go check them out right now.  he has received praise from top guys like CM Punk and John Cena for his humor and originality in the web series.  Cena even made a brief cameo which had Ryder jumping for joy yelling "John Cena was on my show!" repeatedly.

What do you think, could a move to Smackdown be just the thing Ryder needs to become a player in WWE again?
