• Change the offense to (insert trendy offense).
• Fire Watson and hire (an assistant coach on a hot team who has good PR).
• Bench Ganz and start (insert backup QB of choice here).
• ESPN hates Nebraska!

Husker Nation, let’s sober up.

We are rebuilding on top of a failed rebuilding project!

This isn’t the amazing Huskers of the '90s. This is a new Nebraska Cornhuskers team.

To paraphrase Rick Pitino, Tommie Frazier isn’t walking through that door.

To rebuild, we must first coach up a team that didn’t have that much talent to begin with. Last year Callahan sucked, but our defense also sucked. Yes, we underachieved, but we also didn’t have a lot to begin with.

So right now a rookie coach with a decent, but very young, staff is rebuilding a 5-7 team. Callahan’s problem wasn’t "recruiting"—it was talent evaluation.

Callahan could "recruit," which means you get headlines in Rivals and Scout. But that doesn’t mean jack. Case in point:

In 2005, Nebraska had the fourth-ranked recruiting class. Mizzou was 39th.

Building a winning football program from nothing is not an easy task. It’s important that we take a glass of humility and support the excellent coaching staff we have assembled.

You don’t want Shawn Watson? Nick Saban did. I think he knows what's up.

Wonder what's up with Tim Beck? Well, he is about as responsible for the last two losses as he is for the financial crisis.

Joe Ganz does take costly sacks. But he is our best hope this season.

You can blame the running game, but it’s tough to get a first down when it is 1st-and-15.

If we can cut down on stupid mistakes and penalties, we can have much more success than just a bowl game. We have the talent to have a winning record and get a decent win or two this year.

The best part is if the Huskers do get better mistake-wise, they have a good chance of finishing strong.

They have a long way to go, and might not get there, but we have a chance to start to turn it around this season.

The season is not over. It just began.
