In recent years, the WWE Divas have been lacking as of late in both talent on the shows and the quality of their short matches.
Then Lay-Cool came along and made the Divas interesting again and not only that, but they won the WWE Women's Championship, though split it in half later in the reign and called themselves Co-Champions.
They would repeat the feat at Night of Champions as Michelle McCool beat Melina to unify the Women's and Divas Title.
Fast forward a bit to the present, where one of The Bella Twins, Brie, is the reigning Unified Divas Champion. I find it odd that a tag team wrestler, in a division with one belt, has the title, unless this is setting up a split, (but that didn't happen with Lay-Cool, and Nikki looks to be OK with it for now.)
Looking at all this and the current state of the Divas division, a thought popped into my head. Why don't they have a Divas Tag Championship? I mean, they're one shy short of every Divas having a tag partner already, and they could always bring someone up from FCW like A.J.
Looking at the Divas division, you have some talented Divas. Also looking at the division, you'll notice some not-so-talented Divas. I believe the best way to elevate the division as a whole is to create a set of tag titles for them.
We already have two tag teams (though one may soon split), and it did wonders for almost all involved.
With Lay-Cool, you've got Michelle McCool and Layla. Now, McCool may not have needed this, but in my opinion, she was getting a bit stale before Lay-Cool.
Layla, got the long end of the stick on this one, as she not only got to hold her first championship, but was made relevant again. Not to mention, her time with Michelle has given her a lot more screen and mic time and she's a lot better in the ring.
Our other team is Nikki and Brie, The Bella Twins. While they haven't done as much as Lay-Cool, the use of "Twin Magic" has allowed them to not only win several matches, but also recently allowed Brie to become Divas Champion. I suspect they'll go with the Lay-Cool method and declare themselves Co-Champions, but who knows.
Looking at these two teams, it's pretty easy to see that covering up for the faults of a tag partner while they do the same is good strategy, especially where the Divas are involved. Not to mention, having more Divas involved in feuds will help increase interest in the division.
I can think of a few teams already that could challenge for the titles. Aside from The Bella Twins and Lay-Cool, I could see Alicia Fox and Melina as a team, Kelly Kelly and Beth Phoenix, Rosa Mendes and Tamina, Natalya and Maryse (not sure if Maryse is turning face due to her friendship with Yoshi or not, but if she isn't, then Kaitlyn could also be used as Nattie's tag partner,) and lastly, Eve and Gail Kim.
All of the teams mentioned (except maybe Maryse and Natalya and Tamina and Rosa), have a strong and a weak member.
Weak in one way or another, at least, so they were paired up with an "upper tier Diva," to help them improve and cover up for any flaws they have, and as stated, it's not a completely one-way benefit. The upper Diva gets more time and such being with her partner in the ring and backstage.
Now, it wouldn't be needed, but with the creation of a Divas Tag Title, they may need to retire the Divas Championship. Then again, it wouldn't be needed. Maybe it would be better to keep it. We could have the occasional double champion.
As for how it would be introduced, I see it happening like this. Nikki and Brie show up on Smackdown and introduce themselves as the new co-Divas Champions which incites Lay-Cool to come out and claim that Brie and Nikki are copying them which starts a brawl between the two teams. during this, Kelly Kelly and Beth come out and get into it with both teams which causes Eve and Gail Kim to join in.
With all the fighting going on, Teddy Long comes out and announces he's tired of all this Co-Champion stuff and has been given permission to create a tag title for the Divas and announces a tournament to be started on RAW next week with the four teams in the ring and a few other teams put together.
I know WWE hasn't put much stock in it's tag teams as of late, but this would be a great way for them to get the Divas back to where they once were and it couldn't really hurt to try something different in the company.
Anyway, thanks for reading. Let me know what you think about of my idea.
