5 Potential Roles for Edge After Retiring from WWE

LewisApr 16, 2011

Edge is in my top 5 wrestlers and for me, like much of you are really feeling the pain and can't comprehend Smackdown and WWE without 'the Rated R Superstar' Edge.

Whether it was performing the 'Five Second Pose' with current WWE Superstar Christian.

Whether It was winning the King of the Ring.

Weather it was His first WWE Championship win.

Weather it was his 2010 WWE Royal Rumble Return.

Weather it was his outburst on the RAW General Manager's laptop.

Edge has made such a great contribution to the business we adore and following his words from Friday Night Smackdown:

Edge: " I will always be apart of WWE in some respect, So I have a feeling you haven't seen the last of me but i'm really gonna go off the radar off a while"

That was part of his speech which was after the show went of air, If you would like to see it click the link below:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=cWJxPUaQiPM&feature=related

And this part of his speech is around the 4:50 mark.

Weather it will be a special referee spot or a commentator, I will cover the most likely positions in the WWE for Edge when he returns sometime in the future.

RAW or Smackdown General Manager

1 of 7

A General manager spot on Smackdown or RAW in the future isn't out of the question in my opinion.

In the past we've had William Regal, Bret 'the Hitman' Hart and even Kurt Angle.

So why not Edge?

If this were to happen I would see it happening a few years down the line; perhaps around the time he enters the WWE Hall Of Fame which I predict we be the time, Wrestlemania and the Hall of Fame are located in Canada.

Probability of happening: 7/10

Special Referee Spot

2 of 7

Stone Cold has been a Special Referee since his retirement and I wouldn't be surprised if Edge Donned the most respected shirt in WWE; The referee's shirt.

Can anyone smell a slim chance of Edge at Extreme Rules as the special guest referee during the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Friend, Christian and foe, Alberto Del Rio?

Although a slim chance, the motto for all of Professional Wrestling and err.. 'Sports Entertainment'; "Anything can Happen".

This is the industry that got two greats of an era, The Rock and Hulk Hogan to do battle, what other sports has done that?

We don't see Messi and Maradona on the same pitch in Footbal or Soccer to you Americans.

We don't see Senna on the track with Sebastien Vettel in F1.

Only Wrestling or 'Sports Entertainment' can we see such a monumental moment where two Generations collide.

Probability of Edge having involvement at Extreme Rules: 6/10

Probability of Edge referring at some point in the future: 9/10

Backstage Role

3 of 7

Triple H and Goldust just to name a few are wrestlers turned backstage personnel, weather it's a talent scout, a producer, creative or another sub-section.

Edge would be a welcome fit, I would either put him with the creative writers with an intention for him to express his ideas on how to develop, maintain and make a feud a successful one, although he doesn't have to be a permanent fixture in the creative department, a few times a month would prove to be a great addition. He has had quite memorable feuds (and moments, dare i say 'Live Celebration'?) and he will provide a great source of knowledge to the writing staff.

A producer role would also benefit from his experience as a former WWE Superstar; he knows the workings both in and out of the WWE Ring and would provide an excellent attitude as many wrestlers and fans alike have expressed his warmth and decency.

Probability of Creative addition: 6/10

Probability of Producer role: 6.5/10

A Match Down the Line

4 of 7

We never quite got the match of matches, the feud of feuds which has been expressed countless times.

Edge/Christian feud was something we never quite got since Christian's WWE return.

We got teasers, we even got a taste of it on Monday Night RAW Some months back but never got the actual thing.

Although Edge isn't at his healthiest, I wouldn't be surprised if an Edge/Christian match happened at Wrestlemania down the line, perhaps with the return of Wrestlemania in Their home country of Canada.

Probability of match: 8/10

Commentating

5 of 7

Already this year we've seen a shake-up to the commentating booth on both shows.

Jim Ross appearing on RAW

And Booker T on the Smackdown side of things.

Booker T once a 'Sports Entertainer' For WWE switched roles and became a commentator and with one or two reports in the past of Jerry 'The King' Lawler's lack of knownledge of some then ECW and Smackdown Superstars as-well as feuds.

If those reports were to be proven as true, WWE should have sorted those issues out, either telling Lawler to concentrate more on the overall WWE Product or take another role or quit.

Lately i haven't heard such rumors, perhaps his late in-ring antics have made his mind more interested on the product WWE is producing.

Jerry Lawler was/is a great commentator particularly during the heel days of commentating although Lawler is 61 at the moment and perhaps WWE should look for successor, Edge would be a great addition although many of you, might say Matt Striker should be ahead. Edge would provide a different style of commentating and who knows you may even prefer Edge to Striker.

Probability of Announcing: 6.5/10

Edge: Probably the Greatest of His Generation.

6 of 7

Edge wasn't everyones talking point unless it was the issues about himself along with Christian and the ever trending topic of the feud/return tag team which we never fully got.

Edge will be surely missed and will be bigger in retirement as we witness Smackdown changing for all enternity.

Please Comment, It Really Means Alot Guys :)
