Pac 12 Football: Ranking the Best Uniforms in the Conference

Arizona State and Washington State both revealed their new 2011 football jerseys earlier this week.

For Arizona State, the change is a drastic one. Not only did they introduce new jerseys, but they completely revamped the entire athletic department. A new logo, a new attitude.

Washington State, however, didn’t experience quite a change. They added one new jersey and more or less, just tweaked their previous ones.

With two new jerseys entering the mix, it is time to visit the great debate: Which team looks the best on game day?

Cal has a long tradition of having some of the ugliest jerseys in the nation. These yellow monstrosities are the worst of their current set.

The awkward stripes down that pants seem out of place and the there is no need for the random stripes near the collar. Their home blue jerseys and road white jerseys are more reasonable than these, but still nothing to be desired.

Next season will be their fourth year with this style of jersey; maybe it is time for a change.

The case with UCLA’s uniforms seem to be that you either love them or you hate them. 

I hate them.

Baby blue has no place on a football field. Their home uniforms are probably the least intimidating in the conference.

Their road jerseys are just boring. A simple white jersey with gold shoulders and gold pants.

I understand that UCLA is trying to go with a more traditional look, but times are changing. Programs like Oregon are changing the game and using new uniforms as a recruiting pitch.

Time to update, UCLA.

I don’t mind when a jersey and pants are the same color. But when those colors are the overly bright Arizona red or blue, the jerseys get a little out of hand.

The red uniform shown in the picture is the worst Arizona has to offer. Whoever designed this uniform apparently forget that blue is one of Arizona’s colors because it is hardly even featured.

The Wildcats would be much better off with red jerseys and blue pants or vice versa. These eyesores are too much of the same color.

Utah’s normal home uniforms are just a slight improvement on Arizona’s, but there is still too much red.

However, these special Under Armor ones (pictured) don’t work put well at all. Utah wanted to get in on the black trend, but apparently they were not willing to wear black helmets with the jerseys.

Despite it being a poor look, it was for a good cause. It was in a serious of the Under Armor Wounded Warriors campaign, raising money for fallen soldiers.

Last I heard, Utah was not one of the military schools. So why are they wearing camouflage?

This was a decent attempt at making a cool uniform; unfortunately, it didn’t pan out.

Oregon State has a poor reputation when it comes to style, but I think it is unfair. It is hard to make a jersey look good when one of your team colors is orange.

Their black jerseys are simple, but effective, while their road jerseys are reasonable.

The reason Oregon State is so low on this list is because of their dreadful orange jerseys. The players look like pumpkins running down the field.

Stick with the black look. The orange jerseys are better left hanging in the closet.

There is no uniform in the Pac 12 more plain than Stanford’s red home and white road jerseys.

There is so little going on here that it is hard to like or dislike these jerseys.

The colors purple and gold just go well together. Their road and homes jerseys are both solid, and the Huskies have even added an alternate black jersey in recent years.

Washington used to wear gold pants with white jerseys on the road, but luckily, they stopped this.

Like Stanford, Washington’s uniform is very basic. There is a lot that could have gone wrong if they tried to hard to make the jerseys “cool. ”

Being modest is the right thing for the Huskies.

They may look very similar to the Army jerseys, but Colorado's uniforms have always been solid.

Black and gold are cool colors, and I personally have always liked the Buffalo logo.

The only bad thing I can say about Colorado’s uniforms is that the helmet does not match the pants. Is it really that difficult to find pants that are the same color as the helmets?

A similar problem has plagued Arizona State for years; luckily, they changed their uniforms to fix that. Is Colorado next?

The new red and white Washington State uniforms are very similar to those of the past few seasons. However, their grey alternatives are a very unique and make an interesting addition.

I may be the only person outside of Pullman that loves the new grey look. It is something that nobody has ever seen before.

Other than the new look, there is not too much about Washington State football to be excited about. So hopefully this can give the Cougs a recruiting boost they desperately need to become relevant again.

The thing I love about the USC jerseys is that they don’t try to do anything too fancy. There are no black alternates, no crazy stripes and it is rich in tradition.

They have a simple red jersey, with gold shoulder stripes and standard gold pants.

Simple and sweet.

USC has the best logo in the Pac 12. The Trojan head is recognizable and is used for numerous high schools around the country.

The new Arizona State alternate black jerseys could be the most menacing looking uniforms college football has ever seen.

Their athletic department decided it was time for a complete change in image. They got rid of their old Sparky logo (a smiling devil) for a new, more modern pitchfork.

The 2011 Sun Devil football team is really personified in these new jerseys. This is a team that has the reputation for being aggressive, fearless and intimidating on the field.

This new murdered-out look has the entire valley hyped for the season. If the team has success in the black jerseys right away, I see them becoming the primary Sun Devil-look of the future.

Everyone says that they hate the Oregon uniforms and that the wings on the shoulders are absolutely ridiculous. But who we kidding, we all really love the Oregon uniforms.

Whether they are wearing matte black, white, green or yellow, their jerseys are always unique. Part of the excitement of watching Oregon play is waiting to see what they are going to wear.

Oregon has started a revolution in college football. They are now the standard of how drastic uniform changes should be.

If it was not for their creativity, new uniforms like Arizona State’s and Washington State’s would not be as interesting as they turned out.
