WWE: How I Would Have Booked WrestleMania 27

The Doctor Chris MuellerApr 13, 2011

WrestleMania has been panned by many for being too predictable, removing matches and having certain people featured more than others.  I watched the event, and while I went away happy, I still think I could have booked a better PPV, so that's what I am going to do.

Here is the rundown of matches that were on WrestleMania 27.

1. Edge vs. Alberto Del Rio

2. Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio

3. Corre vs. Santino, Kofi Kingston, Kane and The Big Show (Kofi Kingston subbed in for Kozlov after the latter was injured by the Corre.)

4. CM Punk vs. Randy Orton

5. Michael Cole vs. Jerry Lawler

6. Triple H vs. Undertaker

7. Snooki, John Morrison and Trish Stratus vs. Laycool and Dolph Ziggler

8. John Cena vs. Miz

Those are the matches we saw, and I do not intend to change the matches in my re-booking, but rather how they were featured.  I am going to add back the US title match because I feel that it was unfair to remove the match after advertising it.  And let's face it, Snooki and Michael Cole do not deserve to be booked over Sheamus or Bryan.

The show starts off with the standard WrestleMania pyro video package and anthem just like always.  Lawler, Josh Matthews and Cole welcome everyone to the grandest stage of them all.

The first match is Snooki, Trish and Morrison vs. Laycool and Dolph.  I would have booked Dolph and Laycool to win.  I know they wanted to have the celebrity get the win, but I think Dolph needed the win more than anyone else.  He has been on a bit of downward slope since leaving SmackDown, and a victory at Mania would have solidified him as a real threat on Raw.  The match would have ended with Snooki being thrown to ringside and Dolph hitting the Zig Zag on Morrison for the win.

After the match, Dolph dumps Vickie after it is revealed he has been dating Layla of Laycool.  Dolph celebrates with Layla and Michelle, when who makes his way to the ring to mess things up?  Snooki's hero, Zack Ryder.  He comes out fist pumping, and Dolph is just laughing at him.  Ryder rushes the ring and lays out Dolph.  I hate Jersey Shore with a passion, but I like Zack Ryder, so I would have had him tied in with Snooki some way.

The next match would be Mysterio vs. Rhodes.  I have to be honest and say I would not change a thing here.  I thought the match was executed very well and that Rhodes getting the win was the smart move.  He hasn't had a ton of great exposure since leaving Raw for SmackDown, and I think his feud with Rey is going to lead to him becoming a major player over on the Blue Brand.

I wold have booked Sheamus vs. Daniel Bryan for the US Title at this point in the show.  Bryan and Sheamus go back and forth with Sheamus eventually getting the win.  After the match, Gail Kim comes to check on Bryan and gets bullied by Sheamus, until Bryan steps up to defend her honor with a steel chair.  The two watch as Sheamus escapes up the ramp.

Having this match happen this way would have advanced the feud between Bryan and Sheamus, but now it seems as if WWE is not having Bryan go after his US Title after seeing Raw the past two weeks.

At this point in the show, some people want to go to the bathroom or get snacks, so I would have had The Corre vs Team Santino here.  The match would not change much, but I would have had Corre get a decisive win.  They have not been portrayed as a stable with the same power as they had when they were Nexus, and I think a win at WrestleMania could have helped them.  They hold two of the three titles on SmackDown amongst their members, and yet they don't ever seem to win.

Now is when I would have had the World Title Match, not at the top of the show. I thought the match was done well, but I expected Del Rio to win here.  WWE has pushed him very well, and a win at his first WrestleMania would have been great for his career.  The match itself was high quality considering we now know what kind of pain Edge was dealing with.

Christian being in Edge's corner was a good move to keep him on the card.  Brodus Clay has a lot of potential, but I want to see him being used more than just as Del Rio's enforcer.

Next to come would have been the CM Punk vs. Randy Orton Match.  Like the Mysterio vs. Rhodes match, I would not change this match at all.  They both performed at their best and put together a great match, possibly the best overall match of the night.

Cole vs. Lawler would be next.  This match would end with Cole losing in less than three minutes.  I think that Cole got in way too much offense considering the history the King has.  Lawler is one of the more talented guys from his time, and he is still in good shape for his age and for how much he has competed over the years.

After the match Lawler would have gotten beaten down by Cole and Swagger until JR made the save, bringing with him a bunch of low-card faces like Yoshi Tatsu, Chavo and Evan Bourne.  JR and King would celebrate before going over to the announcers booth.

Next on the card would have to be the WWE title match with Miz and Cena.  Having Miz win is still the way I would have gone, but I would not have had it go down with The Rock restarting a double countout and then taking out Cena so Miz won.  I would have had Miz win with some help from Riley.

After the match Cena goes ballistic and tears apart the announcer's tables, Cole's box and the timekeeper area.  Then The Rock comes down and the two face off.  The Rock berates Cena for acting like the kids he appeals to.  Cena would end up agreeing and extending his hand to the Rock.  Rock would smack it away and Rock Bottom Cena, followed by the People's Elbow.  Miz would come out and pretend like he and Rock are on the same side, only to fall victim to the same fate as Cena.

The main reason for not booking this match at the end of the show is that it was a bad move by WWE to have the show end with a closeup shot of a guy who hasn't had a match in seven years, and won't have another match for about a year.  Rocky is awesome and I loved his involvement, but I think the show should have closed with the image of the Undertaker being carted out of the arena.

The last match would obviously be Taker and Trips.  The match outcome would not change at all on this one, but I think that the WWE had an opportunity to do something that they didn't do.  I was hoping Triple H was going to help the Undertaker walk himself to the back.  I wanted it to happen this way because it would have showed the admiration and respect Triple H has for the Undertaker despite having just lost to him.

There was a moment when Taker was struggling at ringside after the match and we saw HHH with a concerned look, and he even tried to go help but the ref told him to leave.  Having Taker leave on a stretcher helps explain why we won't see him wrestle on TV for a while, but I think that the two ending the show at the top of the ramp together with Triple H holding the Undertaker's hand up as the winner would have made for a better ending than Rocky on the top rope looking out into the crowd.

I hope you liked what you have read, and please feel free to comment.
