Brock Lesnar Video: Watch Brock Lesnar Talk About Retirement From UFC

Adam WellsApr 13, 2011

I have figured it out. I have figured out why UFC fans, actually MMA fans everywhere, don't like Brock Lesnar very much

He isn't an MMA creation.

What I mean by that is, he doesn't live his life 24 hours a day for mixed martial arts. He will be the first to tell you that.

As fans of any sport will tell you, we don't want to hear a guy talk about his family or his life or his aspirations outside of competition. We want to see their blood, sweat, tears, heart and energy in their performance, and we don't want to know anything else about you.

Lesnar has never been shy about saying that what he is doing is nothing more than a job and a business to him. While that's true for every single guy that fights in mixed martial arts, or competes in any sport, fans want athletes competing at the highest level for the love of the sport.

For example, during this interview with Mike Straka from Fighting Words, which airs on HDNet, Lesnar said that he thinks about and plans his retirement "every day."

Most fans that will watch this video will probably hope that he loses his next fight against Junior Dos Santos, that way he will think a little bit harder about retirement.

I don't have a problem with Lesnar like a lot of MMA fans that I know do. I think he is good for the sport—he has brought a lot of attention and money in just by fighting. He tries really hard, whether you think he does or not.

What rubs people the wrong way is his personality and his almost indifference to being a great fighter. He wants to make money as fast as he can, and there's nothing wrong with that.

But fans don't want to be told that someone is doing this for the money.
