WWE Superstar Discussion: R-Truth

Nate ScacciaApr 12, 2011

Well Bleachers, last night's Raw was memorable for two things. World Heavyweight Champion Edge stated that he will be retiring from wrestling. The writers here on Bleacher have done a good job of covering the story and what it may hold for the future of the WWE, so I will not discuss it here in my article. However, there is another thing that I want to discuss, and that's R-Truth's role last night.

When R-Truth came down to the ring wanting to get involved in the WWE Championship picture, I did not think much of it. I figured that in the gauntlet match, he would be the first one eliminated, or maybe make it past one match but lose the next. If you watched Raw then, you know that is not what happened.

R-Truth ended up beating Dolph Ziggler and then knocking off John Morrison. When Cena's music hit, I knew that Truth's run would end. Cena came out and was doing several moves on Truth, but he would not give in. Eventually, Truth put up some offense only to have "Super Cena" take him down. We were moments away from having Cena vs. Miz at Extreme Rules (I also did not want this either), but The Miz and Alex Riley stormed the ring and ended the match with a double DQ.

So now neither of the two men are No. 1 contenders. But no, the Raw GM chimes in and says that both Cena and Truth are the contenders. What a bad match to have at Extreme Rules. We have already seen Miz vs. Cena enough times, and R-Truth does not deserve to be in the title picture in the first place.

Here is what I hope is the reasoning behind this. R-Truth is getting older and probably wants a shot at the WWE Championship before he calls it quits. The WWE agrees and is giving him a title shot. That is my best-case scenario. Worst-case scenario is R-Truth winning the WWE Championship. I can't believe that those words are in the same sentence.

If R-Truth wins the championship, then its credibility and prestige will suffer. I can name 10 other superstars more deserving of the shot than him. I do understand that R-Truth has some skill and is obviously over with the fans, but he is no title contender and definitely no WWE Champion.

Thanks for reading my little rant.

Leave your comments about Truth, Raw or Edge's retirement in the comment section. I will answer any questions you may have.
