2011 NFL Draft: A Seventh Look at Picks 1-16

Hereโ€™s a seventh look at the upcoming 2011 NFL Draft.

1. ย Carolina Panthers: ย Cam Newton, QB, Auburn: ย All signs seem to be pointing towards Cam Newton as the number one pick. Iโ€™m not sure itโ€™s the right decision, but the Panthers will have to live with it.
Previous Pick: ย Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri

2. ย Denver Broncos: ย ย Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama: ย Dareus almost seems like a lock. He fills a need at defensive tackle for the Broncos. Fixing their defense, a priority for John Fox, starts on the defensive line.
Previous Pick: ย Marcell Dareus, DT, Alabama

3. ย Buffalo Bills: ย Von Miller, DE/LB, Texas A & M: ย Now that Cam Newton isnโ€™t even a possibility, Miller seems like an obvious choice for the Bills.
Previous Pick: ย Von Miller, DE/LB, Texas A & M

4. ย Cincinnati Bengals: ย Blaine Gabbert, QB, Missouri: ย Closing the door on the Carson Palmer era, the Bengals take a shot at a new franchise quarterback.
Previous Pick: ย Cam Newton, QB, Auburn

5. ย Arizona Cardinals: ย Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU: ย Pairing Peterson withย Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie would give the Cardinals one of the best cornerback duos in the league.
Previous Pick: ย Patrick Peterson, CB, LSU

6. ย Cleveland Browns:ย A.J. Green, WR, Georgia: ย Iโ€™m going back to Green. Heโ€™s too big of a talent at a position of need for the Browns.
Previous Pick: ย Robert Quinn, LB/DE, North Carolina

7. ย San Francisco 49ers:ย ย Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska: ย With Sam Bradford coming off an unbelievable rookie season the Niners will need to improve their secondary.
Previous Pick: ย Prince Amukamara, CB, Nebraska

8. ย Tennessee Titans: ย Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn: Fairley was once in the conversation for the number one pick. He did not have a strong showing at the Combine. He looked good at his Pro Day though, solidifying him as a top ten pick.
Previous Pick: ย Nick Fairley, DT, Auburn

9. ย Dallas Cowboys: ย J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin: ย The Cowboys wanted to nab one of the top two corners in the draft, but have to turn their attention elsewhere.
Previous Pick: ย ย J.J. Watt, DE, Wisconsin

10. ย Washington Redskins:ย Julio Jones, WR, Alabama: ย With A.J. Green off the board, Iโ€™m back to Jones going to Washington. They desperately need playmakers.
Previous Pick: ย A.J. Green, WR, Georgia

11. ย Houston Texans: ย Robert Quinn, LB/DE, North Carolina: ย The Texansโ€™ switch to a 3-4 defense creates a need for a rush linebacker. Robert Quinn could help put Houston over the top.
Previous Pick: ย Akeem Ayers DE/OLB, UCLAย

12. ย Minnesota Vikings: ย Jake Locker, QB, Washington: ย As much as I donโ€™t think Locker necessarily provides better value than what they can get in the second round at quarterback, I think itโ€™s enough of a priority for the Vikes to make Locker their quarterback of the future.
Previous Pick: ย Julio Jones, WR, Alabama

13. ย Detroit Lions: ย Tyron Smith, T, Southern Cal: ย The Lions offensive line wasnโ€™t terrible last year, but Jeff Backus will be 34. Itโ€™s time to look to the future to protect Matthew Staffordโ€™s blind side.
Previous Pick: ย Tyron Smith, T, Southern Cal

14. ย St. Louis Rams: ย Aldon Smith, DE/LB, Missouri: ย They need to add a WR, but that can wait. Adding Aldon Smith to boost their pass rush makes sense.
Previous Pick: ย Aldon Smith, LB, Missouri

15. ย Miami Dolphins:ย Christian Ponder, QB, Florida State: Chad Henne isnโ€™t it. The Dolphins need to find a quarterback. They donโ€™t have a second round pick so itโ€™s either trade down or find a QB now.
Previous Pick:ย Jake Locker, QB, Washington

16. ย Jacksonville Jaguars:ย Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowa: ย The Jags have struggled to find the right mix at defensive end. They managed just 26 sacks last year, which was second to only Denver.
Previous Pick: ย Adrian Clayborn, DE, Iowaย
