Nick Diaz Video: Watch a Recap of Strikeforce Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley Event
With all the talk about UFC purchasing Strikeforce and the clamoring for all those superfights that we have only dreamed of, there was a Strikeforce event on Saturday night that was one of the most entertaining shows of the year.
There were four main card fights—three of them ended in the first round and the other was a bloody mess that went to a very controversial decision.
In the opener, Shinya Aoki made his North American debut a successful one. He scored a submission victory early in Round 1 with a nasty neck-crank submission over Lyle "Fancy Pants" Beerbohm.
The second bout of the evening was Gegard Mousasi and Keith Jardine fighting to a draw. Mousasi was deducted a point in the first round for an upkick to a downed opponent, which ended up costing him the victory.
Jardine's face was a crimson mask when this fight was over, and he had to be thanking his lucky stars that he walked away with a draw.
Gilbert Melendez continued to solidify his claim as the top lightweight fighter in all of mixed martial arts with a dominant knockout victory over Tatsuya Kawajiri. A Melendez-Frankie Edgar fight would be a fantastic show, but that's at least eight months away from happening.
The main event of the evening saw Nick Diaz do what Nick does, and that's talk trash better than anyone and back it up with a brilliant performance.
Diaz didn't waste any time before he started talking to Paul Daley. To the surprise of some, Daley looked to have the upper hand because he just started throwing punches in droves. Diaz survived the onslaught and landed some heavy shots of his own.
Finally, as Daley was throwing punches, Diaz caught him with a shot and Daley fell down like he just died.
If you haven't watched this event and you have an opportunity to catch a replay, check it out. It's well worth your time.
