WWE Smackdown Results, Questions and Comments.... LIVE! (4/8/2011)

It's the first Smackdown following Wrestlemania.  Edge is still the World Champion.  Wade Barrett is the Intercontinental Champion and his Corre compatriots are the tag champs. 

Where does Alberto Del Rio go from here?  How will Cody Rhodes' big win affect him coming out of the flagship show?  Wil we ever see a continuation of Kelly Kelly & Drew McIntyre?

How many times will they recap RAW?

All this and more as Friday Night Smackdown rolls ahead!

Alberto Del Rio starts off the show.  He doesn't have a fancy car, but he is showing up with Brodus Clay and his personal ring announcer.

He says that destiny can be delayed, but it can't be stopped.  He says Edge and Christian only delayed the inevitable. What he's NOT thrilled about is what they did to his car... and so Edge shows up, driving... a tow truck, which is hauling that car Edge and Christian destroyed almost a week ago.

Edge says that if ADR loves the car like a child, he needs to love it unconditionally, so for some reason Edge decides to get a can of yellow spraypaint and writes something on the hood of the car... which WWE doesn't show us.

ADR reminds Edge that he was very close to making Edge tap out, and Edge says that wasn't good enough.  Alberto wants a rematch... and Edge seems dumbfounded, then tells ADR to get to the back of the line.

Christian emerges from the tow truck, and Edge says that Christian deserves a shot more than ADR, having beaten Alberto twice (possibly three times, but I couldn't be sure without doing some research).

Teddy Long shows up and says that the playas can talk about destiny, but that doesn't really matter on his show.

Long sets up Christian vs. ADR yet again... and this time the winner will get a ppv title shot.  Since the match will be defended at Extreme Rules, the stipulation has to be extreme... and so it'll be a ladder match.

Does anyone else think a three-way ladder match between Edge, Christian and Alberto Del Rio could be awesome?  I'm hoping for a double-DQ or double-count-out or a dual pinfall to end the evening.


Wrestlemania ReMatch - Best 2 of 3 Falls
The Corre (Barrett, Gabriel, Slater, Jackson) vs Big Show / Santino / Kofi / Kane

During the entrance for The Corre, Zeke Jackson takes the longest to walk out.  As the only one without a championship belt, you'd think he might be a little faster, maybe even be the first one out there.

Or maybe he's just not motivated.  One thing for sure, he's not the leader.

Spot of the night so far: Kofi Kingston stands on Big Show's shoulders and does a splash onto Heath Slater.

Did anyone else gain a ton of respect for Justin Gabriel by watching him hold off Kane in a front facelock?

Fall 1 - Kofi Kingston pins Justin Gabriel after a flying cross-body splash

Does anyone else think that Christian vs Alberto Del Rio should be Best 2 of 3, since Christian has beaten ADR a few times already over the past few weeks?

Fall 2 - The Corre scores a fall (I believe Wade Barrett pins Santino Marella)

Things break down towards the end of the match, and before Kane can hit a chokeslam, The Corre rush the ring and things end via disqualification.

Outcome - Good Guys win on a technicality

After the match, the Good Guys dominate The Corre and Santino helps Kane and Big Show with a chokeslam on Zeke Jackson.

We get a quick promo for Sin Cara... but should we care?  He's clearly going to be on RAW.

Match - Cody Rhodes vs Trent Barreta

Woo hoo!  Though he might not get any offensive moves in, we at least get a Trent Barreta match on the card.

Wow, not only did Trent get two offensive moves in (kick to the chest, then a flying dropkick), but he also gets a pinfall opportunity!

Things don't last much longer at that point, as Cody hits a few moves and then does his Cross-Rhodes maneuver.

Outcome - Cody Rhodes wins by pinfall

After the match, Barreta gets a beatdown from Cody, and Rey Mysterio shows up to chase Cody off.  Rey invites him back into the ring to continue their feud, but Rhodes rushes off.

If you didn't see the Rock / Cena confrontation from RAW which resulted in the booking of a match for Wrestlemania 28, they showed it on Smackdown.  Go read my RAW article if you want more details.

Backstage, Edge and Christian bust each others chops about the potential for having to face each other at Extreme Rules.  Christian jokingly tells Edge he can root for Alberto in the main event.  I was hoping for a mention of the NWA World Championship reign Christian had a couple years ago, but no dice.

Match - LayCool vs Kelly Kelly & Beth Phoenix

The main story of this match is that there was some tension between Layla and Michelle (unfortunately not of the "sexual" nature), and that lead to Layla working the entire match.

Spot of the night contender: Kelly Kelly with an awesome smack on Layla's ass, and I'm sure a lot of guys would trade places with either one of the ladies in that situation.

Outcome - Kelly Kelly & Beth Phoenix get the win when Layla gets pinned

After the match, Layla tries to figure out why McCool wouldn't let Layla tag her back in, and they don't get anything resolved, with McCool just walking away.

Michael Cole enters the ring and talks up his trainer from Wrestlemania, and Jack Swagger then joins him.  They talk a bit about how awesome they think they are, and then Michael Cole says there's no one who can beat Jack Swagger... prompting Sin Cara to show up.  He rushes the ring, dives into the ring from the floor, takes out Jack Swagger and leaves Cole and Swagger to complain at ringside.

Maybe he won't be on RAW.

Smackdown again recaps RAW, showing the segment where The Miz interrupts Stone Cold's segment with the Tough Enough folks.  During that segment, was anyone else looking around to see if miss "Alicia Fox vs Melina" was in the ring?

Backstage, Layla gives Michelle McCool an invitation to Couples therapy!  McCool not only doesn't think they need it, but she says they're not a couple.  Layla doesn't care, and she walks off.

Match - Christian vs Alberto Del Rio

Does anyone else think it could be cool to have Alberto Del Rio win a match that lets Ricardo Rodriguez be the official Smackdown introduction guy?  It would be annoying, but it could be good to get ADR more heat.
