Nick Davila: The Gunslinger of the National Conference West
Arizona Rattlers quarterback Nick Davila is making a craft out of playing for the Arena Football League. Thanks to their quarterback, the Rattlers are 4-0 and are third in passing yards. Even with some sketchy game play Davila has overcome his mistakes and led the charge.
Nick Davila has a habit of stepping into the arena with his guns blazing. With just four games into the season he has already notched 23 touchdowns on his holster and totaled 1,072 passing yards. The Arizona Gunslinger is the new man to beat in the west.
His near reckless gun slinging attitude has gotten him into some trouble with four interceptions that have led to slow starts in two games this season. Two of the four picks were when he was within 10 yards of the end zone and he lobbed the ball at the net, hoping his best receivers Rod Windsor or Trandon Harvey would find the ball. However, each time the opposite jersey pulled them both down.
The most recent game against the Orlando Predators was his worst game so far for the season. Three of his four recorded interceptions were pulled out of the air by the Predators and one for a touchdown. Davila trotted to the locker room for halftime with only two touchdowns and multiple dropped or bobbled passes. The week prior, his first half performance left the team with a 42-0 lead. But against the Predators, he seemed to be out of rhythm and his receivers were dropping key passes all night.
Even when his timing with his receivers was off, Davila was able to lead the team to a last-second victory. Nick Davila was still able to pass for 344 yards and score six passing touchdowns, if that is how he performs on a bad night, then the rest of the AFL needs to hope that he doesn’t have a good night.
