Jason "Mayhem" Miller on Diaz vs. Daley: Daley's Definitely Winning That Fight
The ongoing feud between Strikeforce Welterweight Champion Nick Diaz and Strikeforce middleweight Jason “Mayhem” Miller continues as we look forward to Nick Diaz vs. Paul Daley this weekend.
Miller joined Ariel Helwani on Monday’s episode of The MMA Hour. Mayhem was his usual, crazy self as he bounced from subject to subject. But he did make sure to get his opinion out about this Saturday’s Strikeforce event, which will be headlined by the title fight between Diaz and Daley.
As Helwani looked to be wrapping up the interview, Mayhem jumped in and asked Ariel a question of his own.
“Who do you got, Diaz or Daley?” Miller inquired.
Despite Diaz being the odds-on favorite to win the fight, MMA’s top journalist went the opposite direction.
“You know what, I might go with Paul Daley,” he said, seemingly surprising himself with his own response.
“Daley’s definitely winning that fight,” Mayhem agreed. “Nick’s weak link is his wrestling. You’re not going to be able to get Daley on the floor. He had a lot of trouble getting small KJ Noons on the floor. Let alone a guy who has trouble making 170 every fight.”
Diaz is well known as one of the best Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu practitioners in the world. Meanwhile, Daley has struggled in previous fights when he has been taken to the ground.
An example would be Daley’s last UFC fight against Josh Koscheck. He was so frustrated that he couldn’t get off his back, he threw a punch well after the bell. This punch got Daley kicked out of the UFC.
But if Diaz can’t bring the fight to the ground, “Semtex” may be able to take advantage with his powerful striking.
“I think it’s going to turn into a kickboxing match, and I really think Daley’s kickboxing is a lot more developed,” Miller continued. “It’s going to be a kickboxing fight, and Daley will win.”
The ongoing war of words between Miller and Diaz seems like an obvious reason for Miller to be biased in picking against Diaz, but he made sure to mention that this was not the case.
“I have no beef with Nick anymore,” he stated. “He said he didn’t want to fight me. Okay, cool, whatever. Now it’s over.”
That’s not exactly how it went, but Diaz definitely hasn't gone out of his way to make this highly anticipated fight happen.
“He said he won’t fight me unless he gets paid $2 million,” Miller explained. “Look man, he ducked. We’re past this. I don’t even care about fighting him anymore. He just showed who he was with that whole thing.”
Although Mayhem repeatedly said that he doesn’t have beef with Nick Diaz anymore, the way he talks about him seems to indicate otherwise.
Don’t expect a response from Diaz before Saturday night. But if he does get past Paul Daley, it would be hard to believe if we don’t hear something from the Strikeforce Welterweight Champion in the near future.
