Minnesota Vikings: 10 Reasons It's Hard to Be a Fan of the Team

Ryan LesterApr 4, 2011

It’s a cruel world.

It seems like yesterday that Brett Favre joined the Vikings and took the NFL by storm. Not only do Vikings fans have to deal with last year’s disappointment, but they have to live with the fact that the rival Green Bay Packers are Super Bowl Champions. Sometimes it's hard to be a Vikings fan.

Here are 10 reasons why:

10. The Dome Sucks. There, I said it. It is better to watch a Vikings game in the Dome than a Twins game, but that isn’t saying much. I could almost live with the blah, but the noise level is beyond measure. I’m not talking about the fans. I can deal with loud cheering. They have the speakers cranked up way too loud. The only way to treat your ears worse is to allow Mike Tyson to chew on them. Oh, and the roof collapses.

9. Purple is a tough color to love. The Vikings have one of the coolest, toughest names of any professional sports team. You think of Vikings and you think of brute strength. Yet their color reminds you of Barney or Grimace.

8. Kick Ass Offense and other Chilly things. The Vikings will continue to be ridiculed for all things Brad Childress related. From the whole Brett Favre saga to the Kick Ass Offense.

7. Love Boat. With each passing season the Love Boat incident becomes more of a distant memory, but it’s still something Vikings fans have to live with from time to time.

6. Prince’s awful song. Seriously. That song brought shame upon the entire fan base. Awful Prince. Plain awful.

5. Mismanagement. The whole Randy Moss trade blew up in the Vikings’ faces. Not only did the move hurt on the field, but now the Vikings are short a third round draft pick.

4. NFC playoff losses. From Gary Anderson’s missed field goal to 41-0. From Brett Favre’s interception to Drew Pearson’s push-off. There aren’t many teams that have had their dreams dashed like the Purple.

3. Four Super Bowl losses. The Vikings don’t quite have the stigma that the Buffalo Bills have, but the Super Bowl losses sting.

2. The Trade. Anytime there is a bad trade in pro sports, the first thing that is brought up is the Herschel Walker trade. Haven’t we been through enough?

1. The Packers not only are good, but they are young. They could very well be at the beginning of a dynasty. Vikings fans will have to hear their neighbor Packers fans relentlessly.
