NFL Free Agency Ideas 2011: 10 Possible Landing Spots for Nnamdi Asomugha
Nnamdi Asomugha will be the hottest free agent commodity in the 2011 NFL Free Agency period.
The only question is, when will that period start?
With the lockout, free agents are basically stuck in limbo until a new Collective Bargaining Agreement is reached.
One thing is for certain though: no matter how short the free agency period is, there will be a team that signs Asomugha.
But which team will it be?
Here are the 10 teams most likely to land the superstar cornerback.
10. Green Bay Packers
1 of 10
Charles Woodson told ESPN Milwaukee that he would move to safety to accommodate Asomugha.
Though the Packers are a possibility, they are an unlikely one.
General manager Ted Thompson prefers to build through the draft and has a history of not signing big name free agents.
9. New England Patriots
2 of 10
The Patriots are another team that usually doesn't sign big name free agents.
Maybe they'd make an exception for Asomugha.
They have a giant hole at cornerback and their secondary struggled mightily last season.
8. Washington Redskins
3 of 10
Dan Snyder loves to throw money around (Albert Haynesworth).
So, the Redskins definitely have to be mentioned as being in the mix for Asomugha.
The 'Skins secondary also was pretty bad last season.
Asomugha would be a strong upgrade at corner.
7. Philadelphia Eagles
4 of 10
Can you imagine an Asomugha-Asante Samuel cornerback tandem?
I can, and it's frightening.
The Eagles should explore this option.
It would shore up their secondary for years to come.
6. Dallas Cowboys
5 of 10
The Cowboys also like to spend money on players.
Jerry Jones would love to have Asomugha in a Cowboy uniform.
Asomugha would be a good fit in a secondary with Terence Newman.
5. Minnesota Vikings
6 of 10
The Vikings aren't shy with spending money (Brett Favre).
Zygi Wilf is committed to making the Vikings as competitive as possible.
Asomugha would definitely help the Vikings next season, when the offense will likely struggle under a new quarterback.
4. Pittsburgh Steelers
7 of 10
The Steelers have a weakness at cornerback.
That was evident with the way Aaron Rodgers picked them apart in this year's Super Bowl.
Asomugha would be a huge upgrade alongside Ike Taylor.
He could single-handedly ensure that the Steelers are favorites to return to the Super Bowl this season.
3. Houston Texans
8 of 10
The Texans had the NFL's worst pass defense in 2010.
It was comically bad.
In order to stop being the laughing stock of the NFL, they need to sign Asomugha.
He can't do it alone though.
They need a lot of help in the secondary.
2. New York Jets
9 of 10
The Jets have an opportunity to build one of the best secondaries in NFL history if they sign Asomugha.
Pairing him with Darrelle Revis would improve their already great pass defense.
It would also scare the daylights out of any opposing quarterback.
Rex Ryan would love to have Asomugha on his side.
1. Baltimore Ravens
10 of 10
The Ravens' cornerbacks were the one weak spot last season.
By shoring up that area, the Ravens will challenge the Steelers for the AFC North title this season.
Signing Asomugha would make them the favorites.
Pairing him in the same secondary with Ed Reed would make it nearly impossible for opposing teams to throw against the Ravens.
