WrestleMania XXVII: What Was It Like Inside the Georgia Dome?

Joe M.Apr 4, 2011

WrestleMania XXVII is in the books, after setting an entertainment event attendance record at the Georgia Dome with over 71,000 fans in attendance.

There were bad matches, good matches, great matches and Snooki's match, which was in a league of its own.

The crowd at the Georgia Dome was a little more than vocal for The Rock and Snooki, and a little less than vocal for Daniel Bryan, who they clearly couldn't care less about.

Being inside the Dome myself, I'm going to walk through each match, and, as the title would suggest, tell those who watched on TV what it was like inside the Georgia Dome.

Dark Matches

1 of 10

Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus was bumped from the main card and made the dark match of the night.  When Justin Roberts announced that the dark match would be for the United States Title it got loud in the then not-full Georgia Dome.

It was a Lumberjack Match, and every mid-carder not on the WrestleMania card served as a Lumberjack.

The Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus match only lasted about four minutes before the Lumberjacks got involved, and Teddy Long announced that the match would now become a non-title Battle Royal.

The Great Khali won and actually got a large pop.  It was "surprising," because after the event, no one wrote about how happy they were that Khali had won.

The Rock Opens the Show

2 of 10

This was the second largest pop of the night, only behind The Rock's second appearance after the main event.

The crowd was on their feet the entire promo and didn't calm down until The Rock had left the ring.

When The Rock made his catchphrases, the people screamed them. It was even hard to hear him with all the speakers set up throughout the stadium.

Edge def. Alberto Del Rio

3 of 10

Alberto Del Rio's music hit first and after a brief "boo" from half the crowd, it was silent for the rest of his slow walk to the ring.

Christian came out second to a large pop, but during his entrance, the camera cut to Michael Cole which drew an immense amount of heat from the crowd.  Looks like WWE doesn't even want to give Christian a full WrestleMania entrance, let alone a spot in the match.

Edge came out to a huge pop, but then a again, he always does.

Throughout the match the crowd was chanting "spear."  Other than that, they weren't terribly into the match, which was over pretty quickly.

Edge and Christian trashing Del Rio's car drew a huge reaction, though—a larger pop than any part of the match drew.

Cody Rhodes def. Rey Mysterio

4 of 10

The crowd was dead for Rhode's entrance, not many "boos," just pretty much silent.

Rey drew a nice pop, but it died off by the time the match started.

The crowd wasn't very into this match either, and seemed pretty quiet until the end when Rhodes won.  Even though he didn't draw any heat coming out, after he won, the crowd got pretty loud.

Kane, Santino Marella, Kofi Kingston, & Big Show def. The Corre

5 of 10

Santino got one of the largest pops of the night, comparable to The Rock's pop, Stone Cold's pop and John Cena's pop.  Obviously, Santino draws the reaction because everyone is excited to see the comedy, but still, huge pop for Santino.

The match, of course, did not even last long enough for the crowd to get into, but Santino's Cobra drew another massive pop.

Randy Orton def. CM Punk

6 of 10

The crowd absolutely went crazy when Randy Orton hit that RKO on CM Punk as Punk was diving off the ropes.

It's not the first time we've seen Orton counter a top-rope jump or leap with an RKO, but this has got to be the loudest pop the move has ever gotten.

CM Punk is able to draw tremendous heat as well, and throughout the match, the crowd was kept hooked.

Michael Cole Def. Jerry Lawler with Guest Referee "Stone Cold" Steve Austin

7 of 10

I'm sure it's pretty self explanatory as to who got heat and who drew a huge pop.

Michael drew the most heat of the night, by far.  No one even came close to drawing as much heat as Cole.

Lawler and Stone Cold both got huge pops, and it was great to see Stone Cold back on the quad.

Jim Ross also came out before this match and got a nice pop himself. It's good to see that WWE finally gave in and let him call some matches at WrestleMania.

Each Stone Cold Stunner drew a larger pop than the last, and the Raw GM managed to draw a huge amount of heat without even being there, or even being a real person.

The Undertaker def. Triple H

8 of 10

The Undertaker and Triple H had a hard match to follow... in Michael Cole defeating Jerry Lawler... by disqualification.

The match was obviously amazing and never even came close to losing the crowd.  Everyone was on their feet for most of the match, and Triple H tombstoning The Undertaker was a great spot.

The Undertaker was helped onto a cart and brought into the back after the match, and a huge pop came when he actually made it up onto the stretcher.

John Morrison, Snooki, and Trish Stratus def. Dolph Ziggler and LayCool

9 of 10

Why Snooki was even on the card is still beyond most fans, so when in doubt, boo.  And that's what happened. Snooki skipped down the ring while being booed by mostly everyone.

Quick match that ended with Snooki doing a flip move that looked like it hurt about as much as the Finger Poke of Doom.

No one was into the match, but that didn't mean Snooki didn't draw a ton of heat.  A more suitable opponent for Snooki would have been Hornswoggle.

The Miz def. John Cena

10 of 10

This was all about The Rock.

The Miz drew heat.

And John Cena got a pop after the God Squad introduced him, but it was still all about The Rock.

It was hard for the crowd to be into the actual match when everyone was just watching the entrance ramp waiting for The Rock.

After the double countout, everyone knew it was time for The Rock. When he did come out, he drew the biggest pop of the night, which is saying something as Stone Cold, The Undertaker, and Triple H were all involved in matches.

Even The Miz winning the match and retaining the WWE Championship was overshadowed by The Rock, who has just Rock Bottom'ed John Cena.

The match may have been alright, but The Rock overshadowed everything that happened.
