Detroit Lions: All Hope Is Gone

A week ago, it was Christmas time in Detroit. Fans waited to see the end of the Matt Millen era and it finally came through. The move gave Lions fans, all throughout the country, HOPE.

I was as excited as anyone when first news broke. The Lions have always had the offensive weapons to not just win games, but actually contend and be a team to look out for.

The Mike Martz era was finally over and brought an end to Millen grabbing every ex-49er he can get his hands on to the roster but it brought a similar situation where Millen grabbed every Tampa Bay Buck he can get his hands on and signed them to a contract.

Coming into this weekends game against division rivals Chicago Bears, I actually thought the Lions had a great chance to win this game especially coming off the much needed bye week and firing off Matt Millen, whom many thought was the reason the Lions suck so much.

But once again, we were all fooled. The Lions, with Millen or without, are the same old Lions they've been for the past decade. The Bears came in and made Kyle Orton look like a five-time pro bowler passing for over 300 yards while Kitna, the so-called veteran, was benched halfway into the third quarter.

All hope is lost, the fans, the players, the media, everyone is a part of it. I would have been much happier if the game had been blacked out and not seen in local areas because of the lack of tickets being sold. The NFL actually granted an extra day just for the Lions to be on TV.

No one can fix the Lions, NO ONE. Not even Bill Cowher who is widely rumored to be interested in the job as a possible coach/GM. The Lions won't be a playoff team or halfway decent team unless they do a complete overhaul of the team. Starting with the Owners, the Fords, all the way to the coaches, scouts, and even players.

This process will take years and years if not a decade to fix these Lions. The drafting was just horrible even before Millen. So its not all his fault, there's a curse in Detroit.
