Ten Top Tens After Week Six In College Football
Top Ten Teams
1) Oklahoma—Ready for the Longhorns.
2) LSU—Played well against Idle.
3) Texas—Was a little surprised by how easy they did it on the road.
4) Penn State—Not as close against Purdue as most thought
5) BYU—Could have scored 100, called the dogs off.
6) Alabama—Won without looking real good, part of winning sometimes.
7) Missouri—Still waiting for a defense to stop them.
8) Tulsa—Looks like they are going to have agripe if they keep winning.
9) Boise State—As good as anyone right now.
10) Oklahoma State—Just putting the Cowboys here to keep Texas Tech out of the top 10.
Ten Scores that surprised me the most
1) Hawaii 32, Fresno State 29—This game was at Fresno State.
2) Missouri 52, Nebraska 17—For some reason I thought the Huskers would play with more pride for the home folk.
3) Army 44, Tulane 13—Any Army win is a huge surprise, this one is extra huge.
4) Virginia 31, Maryland 0—I probably would have ranked the Terps if they won as 13 1/2 point favorites.
5) UTEP 30, So. Miss 27—That firing Jeff Bower bad karma we talked about all spring must be kicking in.
6) Tulsa 63, Rice 28—Just surprised it went less than 100 total points.
7) Virginia Tech 27, Western Kentucky 13—Just surprised it was that close.
8) South Carolina 31, Ole Miss 24—Didn't think the 'Cocks could score 31 points.
9) Pittsburgh 26, South Florida 21—Anytime Wanny beats a ranked team it's a shocker.
10) Tennessee 13, Northern Illinois 9—Phil Fulmer must feel real secure right now.
Ten Other Things That Surprised Me
1) Lisa Horne picking nine correctly against me—Of course she picks my week to catch fire, Congrats!
2) Me picking so poorly in Lisa's pick 'em—Thankfully most of those games were really "no plays."
3) How bad the video was on Gameplan yesterday—Did Ole Miss and South Carolina play in a cloud?
4) Charlie Weiss trying to blow the game—You never give your opponent the ball back with a chance to win or tie without trying to score to put it out of reach first. I don't get it.
5) The Wisconsin Band—Not that they got suspended, but that they got more mentions on TV than they normally do in a season.
6) How bad the commentary is on Vs.—And I quote "Another big reason Kansas isn't winning right now is because Iowa State has 20 points and Kansas doesn't have any." (such insight).
7) Did I mention the commentary on Vs. yet?—"The Kansas defense just keeps putting on the pressure" (after a 20+ yard gain while ISU gets ready to score again).
8) The late Kentucky TD—Was Nick Saban demonstrating how to hold on the sideline after that play?
9) That Bleacher Report talks about more exposure for everyone and then puts another irrelevant thing on the important pages—Just move everyone's hard work further beneath the fold on main pages for something unrelated (College OTR?), I don't get it and it doesn't seem like you guys?
10) The amount of International visitors I had to The College Football Place this week—Thanks Yaro!
Ten Guys We Used To Root For (YIKES!)
1) OJ Simpson (USC)—Going to be hard to look for the real killers from where he's going.
2) Lawrence Phillips (Nebraska)—Still in the news all these years later.
3) Matt Millen (Penn State)—At least he didn't hurt anyone, unless you count crushing fans hopes and dreams.
4) Jimmy Johns (Alabama)—The media now acting like that whole mess didn't just happen.
5) Tony Mandarich (Michigan State)—Comes out this week and talks about how he took steroids at MSU, really Tony?
6) Michael Vick (Virginia Tech)—So you're bankrupt and we're supposed to care?
7) Al Davis (Raiders)—I guess he forgot this was college football and wanted to make an appearance.
8) Maurice Clarrett (Ohio State)—I have to mention him every time I do a list like this, I just feel obligated.
9) Chicago Cubs—The losing becoming less lovable.
10) Cedric Benson (Texas)—I know he's back "in" but this guy is a mess.
Ten Other Things I Did This Weekend

10) Turned the heat on—Not sure what it's like everywhere else but it's getting chilly in Chi-Town.
Ten Scores That Didn't Surprise Me Too Much
1) Vandy 14 , Auburn 13—In case you haven't noticed Auburn's offense isn't good.
2) Illinois 45, Michigan 20—I had Juice Williams on my pre-season Heisman list.
3) USC 44, Oregon 10—I figured the Ducks had prepared themselves for failure.
4) Oklahoma 49, Baylor 17—Baylor will be much improved and it won't take them long.
5) Alabama 17, Kentucky 14—Kentucky +16 1/2 was pretty much a lock.
6) Temple 28, Miami (OH) 10—Anyone know why the Red hawks were favored?
7) Boise State 38, La. Tech 3—Anyone really think the Bulldogs had a chance?
8) FIU 42, North Texas 10—There's a reason I have North Texas on top of my "teams that stink" list.
9) Ball State 31, Toledo 0—Just keep acting like Ball State doesn't exist.
10) Oklahoma State 56, Texas A&M 28—The Cowboys are at least twice as good as the Aggies.
Ten Big College Football Matchups for The Week Ahead
1) Texas is playing Oklahoma—Yup, they are.
2) Florida is playing LSU—Big time!
3) Missouri is playing Oklahoma State—The over/under is going to be triple digits.
4) Penn State is playing Wisconsin—The Band will be back for this one.
5) Minnesota is playing Illinois—This might not be a bad game.
6) Auburn is playing Arkansas—No pressure on the Tigers to score points against the biggest sieve in the conference.
7) South Carolina is playing Kentucky—I'll watch it.
8) Notre Dame is playing at North Carolina—These two are quietly stock piling wins.
9) Vandy is playing Mississippi State—Any Vandy game is a story this year.
10) Clemson is playing Wake Forest—I never get tired of watching Clemson lose.
Ten Coaches Doing a Nice Job
1) Bobby Johnson—They're going 'bowling' in Vandy.
2) Mike Gundy—Time to give him props, the Cowboys are playing well.
3) Les Miles—I don't think anyone expected the Tigers to be this good again.
4) Brady Hoke—Ball State is pretty good. How many of you heard that name before?
5) Joe Paterno—What more can be said about Joe?
6) Butch Davis—Never thought he was more than just a great recruiter but he has the Heels ahead of schedule.
7) Paul Johnson—This guy should run for President, I'd vote for him.
8) Bob Stoops—Credit where credit is due. You don't see his team lack focus or stumbling.
9) Chris Petersen—As a fan, he makes the game more fun to watch.
10) Brian Kelly—He gets lost in the shuffle but we'll see him at one of the big programs soon enough.
Ten Reasons I Thought Week 6 Was the Most Boring Week of The Season So Far
1) Too many favorites won—They covered too as they won in blow outs.
2) 3 games on Versus—I think people would have slept through the lunar landing if they covered it.
3) Gameplan doesn't come in HD—They have the better games but the video stinks.
4) Todd Blackledge didn't eat a wedge of cheese—He was in Wisconsin, who didn't want to see him take on one of those giant bricks of cheese?
5) Nebraska got another prime time game—Enough is enough, they aren't good.
6) The games aren't too long, the studio shows are—Maybe they should have a new clock rule for these shows?
7) Georgia and LSU were both off—I like the sport better when these two teams play on Saturday.
8) Clock Rules—It's pretty obvious now that the game has changed, not for the better.
9) Bad Officiating—Let's just allow these guys to decide every single game.
10) Lack of an announcer willing to take a chance—Only Paul McGuire made a statement that questioned anything and while I'm not a fan, I say good for him saying the refs in the FSU-Miami game didn't know the rules.

9) The Preseason Rankings, Where Are They Now?—I haven't even looked actually, has anyone? I mean we argued about these things six weeks ago like it meant something.
10) Will There Ever Be a Fumble That Isn't a Ten Minute "Process" Ever Again?—And they're worried about how long it takes to play the games?
