WWE WrestleMania 27: U.S. Title Match Bumped from the Card?

Graham GSM MatthewsApr 3, 2011

Upon arriving at my friend's house for an expected tremendous WrestleMania 27 broadcast, I was welcomed with the news that the World Heavyweight Championship Match between Edge and Alberto Del Rio opened up the show.

Not only was I furious at the fact I missed the title match and the fact Alberto Del Rio didn't win, but I was also a bit confused as to why the United States Championship Match between Sheamus and Daniel Bryan didn't open the show. Rumors speculated that it would prove to be a Match of the Night candidate and an awesome back and forth match, so seeing that it was yet to air left me scratching my head.

Keep in mind that I was solely watching the broadcast with the Internet unavailable, leaving me unable to discover the dark match the occurred prior to the show that I assumed would be a battle royal with the stars left off the card. I waited patiently the entire night, highly anticipating that it was quite possible the United States title bout would follow the six-person tag team match.

Unfortunately for myself, I was waiting for something that would never come to fruition. As I saw the Cena-Miz hype video air, I became discouraged we would not see the Celtic Warrior or the American Dragon on the show.

Arriving home, I was treated with the news that the U.S. title match I was so highly anticipating was bumped off the card. As furious as I was, I read into the dark match details.

Apparently, the bout took place before WrestleMania 27 went live as the dark match, with the added stipulation of a Lumberjack Match. However, it would soon be cut short and changed to a battle royal featuring every wrestler present at ring-side without the title on the line, that would eventually be won by the Great Khali.

One can only assume the match was removed from the card due to time constraints, yet we're treated with two tag matches only lasting nearly five minutes in total? The eight-man tag team match was only confirmed Monday, so why not bump the least anticipated match off?

Both Sheamus and Daniel Bryan are two of RAW's top shining stars, and were basically disrespected by being told they would be present at WrestleMania 27 only to be thrown off. WWE could have at least had the courtesy to air it over WWE.com.

Unable to witness this match on the Grandest Stage of Them All somewhat lowered my overall review of the show, and certainly my respect for WWE officials regarding their questionable order.

If all goes right, we will see a rematch between the two at the upcoming Extreme Rules pay-per-view, or better yet tomorrow night on RAW. Lastly, removing a recently former WWE Champion from the card just goes to show how much WWE currently cares about their lacking mid-card.

Hopefully, you enjoyed WrestleMania 27 as much or more than I did knowing this news, since this viewer feels he was ripped off. Make sure to leave your feedback below. GSM out.
