EliteXC Heat: Five Things I Learned Watching Kimbo Slice Get Knocked Out

Bryan TraffordOct 4, 2008

Heat it was. Looked like Jared Shaw was pretty heated at the conclusion of the main event.

There will be enough recaps posted, so I will look at things from a different angle here. In tribute to my buddy Ryan Wales, who apparently has vanished from Bleacher Report, here are five things I learned while watching EliteXC: Heat.

1. Christiane "Cyborg" Santos is actually a man.

Ok, so I have no actual proof. It's just a gut feeling I have. Watching Carano, I get the feeling I'm watching a woman who is an amazing natural athlete fighting other women who are less athletic. Watching Cyborg fight I get the feeling I'm watching a man beating a woman. I know it's early, but I'm taking Cyborg in that potential upcoming matchup.

2. "Ninja" needs to tag in the "Shogun"

I have watched Murilo "Ninja" Rua fight several times. Even in winning he hasn't impressed me. He seems to not possess any real power, and I've seen him ko'd twice now pretty decisively. He is like a poor man's version of Shogun, and I prefer the real thing. Maybe when Shogun is healthy he can fight in his brother's place and get him back on the winning track.

3. Jake Shields should not be calling out GSP anytime soon.

After his last two fights ended rather quickly, I was beginning to think Shields was some kind of unstoppable jiu jitsu machine. Well after tonight, I have rethought this notion. I got to see what could happen to Jake if he is not able to get his opponent to the ground.

His standup is not fluid, and he leaves his head up and chin out way too often. For a guy that says he wants to fight GSP, I didn't see anything tonight that would indicate he is ready for that type of challenge.

4. Fedor will return, apparently.

I mean, they only told us 965 times. I sure hope it's against Arlovski and not Barnett. You gotta feel bad for Tim Sylvia, he got shown getting knocked down and choked out repeatedly on free TV.

5. Affliction+EliteXC > Affliction+Golden Boy

With EliteXC possibly on life support, these two promotions could only help each other by continuing to work together. I mean I love boxing and all, but this Golden Boy hybrid card idea needs to be scrapped ASAP before it fails miserably. I would much rather watch Affliction fighters on CBS. Could you imagine Fedor on free TV?

So I managed to get through my whole article without mentioning Fergie. I had hoped he would win if only so he would be undefeated when Tito signed so he could ground and pound his face in. With the way things are looking, EliteXC might not be around when Tito comes back from back surgery. I hope they are, because I would love to see Tito vs. Frank Part II.
