The Showcase of the Immortals: WWE Wrestlemania 27 Predictions

Adam CoombsApr 2, 2011

The name is synonymous with professional wrestling.  It is the grand climax to a year of twists and turns within the WWE Universe.  It is the end of of a journey for some superstars and the beginning of a legacy for others.  Welcome to WrestleMania, the showcase of the Immortals.

On the eve of the "Grandest Stage of 'em all," we look and predict the outcome to this year's most exciting event!  It's time to play the game.

United States Championship Match: Daniel Bryan vs. Sheamus (C)

There are two great honors in professional wrestling.  The first being to headline at the top of the card and the other to open the show.  Look for Daniel Bryan and Sheamus to aim high and set the tempo for what should be a wildly unpredictable night.

In their previous contests, Sheamus came up strong against the much smaller Bryan.  Now with rematch in hand, look for Bryan to showcase some of his abilities from his Indy-circuit run.

Sheamus looks to be the odds on favorite to walk out of Mania with the belt but look for an incredibly strong showing from Bryan as the WWE draft looms in the next month.

Winner:  Sheamus via pin-fall

Jerry "The King" Lawler vs. Michael Cole w/ Jack Swagger: Referee "Stone Cold"

Easily the most-anticipated match on the card with the most obvious conclusion.

For nearly a year, Michael Cole's Heel character has annoyed WWE fans every Monday night.  On Sunday, look for the big blow-off to this character and redemption for Jerry Lawler.

What appeared to be a stacked deck against Lawler, with Cole sporting Jack Swagger at ringside, has vanished with the announcement of "Stone Cold" as guest referee.

Cole has held the momentum in this feud dating back to costing Jerry Lawler the WWE Championship against the Miz in their TLC match this past November. No feud has had this long of a simmer on the card, so look for a grand payoff as Lawler destroys Cole with a little help from "Stone Cold."

MANIA MOMENT ALERT:  Look for the return of Jim Ross and a beer bath for Cole

Winner:  Jerry Lawler with a Memphis Pile Driver

8-Man Tag-Team Bout: The Corre vs. Bigshow, Kane, Santino and Kozlov

In a match to showcase the emerging future stars of the WWE, we find Wade Barrett leading his "Corre" against the Big Show, Kane, Santino and Kozlov.

This match won't be pretty and don't look for a very long contest.  Expect the obvious bumps and signature moves from each star.

The obvious choice would be "the Corre" but look for Justin Gabriel or Heath Slater to fall victim to "the Cobra" courtesy of Santino.

MANIA MOMENT ALERT:  Ezekiel Jackson to slam the Big Show in a monumental showcase of strength

Winner:  Team Big Show via pin-fall

Rey Mysterio vs. "Dashing" Cody Rhodes

A match sure to be crowd-pleasing as Cody Rhodes and Rey Mysterio lock up in a much-anticipated showdown.

Dating back to the accidental "disfiguring" of Cody Rhodes' face by Mysterios' knee brace, this feud has been building.

Now at the "Grandest Stage of 'em all," look for Mysterio to pull out all the stops in Rhodes' singles debut. Mysterio hand picked Rhodes for this feud, and even in a losing effort, Rhodes will come off shining.

Look for Mysterio to remove Rhodes' mask, distracting him long enough for Rey to pick up the win in a hot contest.

Winner:  Mysterio via pin-fall

Mixed Tag Match: Morrison, Trish Stratus, Snooki vs. Dolph Ziggler and Lay-Cool

"Snookimania" is here as the "Jersey Shore" star enters the squared-circle at Wrestlemania.

With Money-In-the-Bank relegated to its own pay-per-view, look for Morrison and Ziggler to wow in this exhibition bout.

The ladies will be involved but look for the majority of this short match to involve Ziggler and Morrison as they showcase their abilities in front of the world.

Though the match will be brief, Morrison and Ziggler will shine before the necessary Wrestlemania moment when Snooki ends the contest courtesy of at least one "Stratusfaction" by Trish Stratus.

MANIA MOMENT ALERT:  Snooki will grab the pin-fall on Layla and the headlines

Winner: Team Snooki

"The Viper" Randy Orton vs. C.M. Punk

A match with the potential to steal the show as the Viper faces off against C.M. Punk.

This feud dates back to the fall of 2008 as a heel Orton punted Punk in the head prior to his World Heavyweight Title defense, causing a forfeit.

Punk once again outshines as a heel, setting his sights on Orton at WrestleMania.  In the weeks leading up to this bout, Orton has taken out all the members of Punk's Nexus.

In what appeared to be a guaranteed Orton win, Punk has changed the game by taking Orton's knee out prior to their Mania bout. With Orton reduced to one knee, Punk is the favorite to walk out of Mania.

This feud is guaranteed to continue into Extreme Rules next month, so look for Orton to shine at Mania with an R.K.O out of nowhere.

MANIA MOMENT ALERT:  Orton to hit an R.K.O out of the G.T.S

Winner:  Orton via pin-fall

WWE World Heavyweight Championship: Alberto Del Rio vs. Edge (C)

Cena and Miz will look to outshine the roster, but the money's on this hot contest between Alberto Del Rio and the "Rated R Superstar" Edge.

Del Rio is a naturally-gifted athlete, featuring a background in MMA as well as professional wrestling.  His star has been on the rise since his debut earlier this year. His NXT protege Brodus Clay will be at ringside for his championship bout.

Edge is an 11-time world champion, in fact, this will be his fourth-straight Mania appearance in a world title bout.  Accompanying Edge will be Christian to even the odds.

This match will showcase what Wrestlemania is all about—epic title matches.  Edge lives for big match moments, and Del Rio is sure to put on a show in his debut.  There is no doubt that these two will aim to tear the house down in a contest that will last at least 20 minutes.

Edge is known as a transitional champion.  Many of his reigns segued towards the rise of other stars due to injury.  While Edge is an 11-time champion, his track record with the belt at Mania will continue.

What is intriguing is that Del Rio employs a submission as his finish, and there is no way Edge will tap out.  Look for Christian to turn on Edge and begin a deep program between the two of them. It's time for Christian to take that next step.

Winner and New Champion:  Alberto Del Rio via pin-fall

No Holds Barred Match: "The Last Outlaw" the Undertaker vs. "The Game" Triple H

WWE.Com

A match that received a much-needed dose of hype this past Monday, this match will showcase the end of an era for the WWE.

Triple H and Taker are edging ever-closer to their swan song, and this match will showcase the best of their experience.

While no Shawn Michaels, Triple H will hold his own in this match as he seeks to end the "Dead man's Wrestlemania streak. Taker is not as agile as he used to be hence the No Holds Barred stipulation.

While these two have faced off before at Mania, look for both stars to out-do their last contest at Wrestlemania X-7.

One way or another, the WWE landscape will never be the same after this bout.  As the company looks to the next generation of superstars, Triple H and the Taker are all that remains of the Attitude Era.  The two veterans will look to re-invigorate old fans and educate new fans on how gritty that era was.

Don't look for a technical contest between these two as they utilize everything around the ring to put on a brutal showing.  But look for Triple H to match Shawn Michaels previous two bouts with the Deadman in psychology.  It won't be flashy, and it won't be pretty, but it can and will leave a mark on WrestleMania history.

Look for HBK to be ringside for this match, and more than likely, have a hand in the outcome as he tries to help his best friend...only to hurt him.

A Triple H win is not out of the question, but with the possibility of a Cena-Taker bout next year, I've gotta go with house money and give it to Taker.  I will not be surprised if Triple H defines his legacy here with a win though.

MANIA MOMENT ALERT:  Triple H WILL utilize the sledgehammer, and HBK will get involved.

Winner:  Undertaker via pin-fall

WWE Championship: The Miz (C) vs. John Cena

The forecast in Atlanta calls for a simply electrifying main event contest between WWE Champ the MIZ and John Cena.

On paper, this match appears pretty lopsided, but that's where "The Great One" comes into play.  Look for the Rock to leave his mark on this main event and give us something memorable.

Miz has become almost a non-factor since the Rock and Cena began their war of words.  With the apparent lack of hype for the reigning WWE Champion, the Miz has been booked solid the past few weeks over Cena in hopes of turning the tide.

Look for Cena to once again prove to the world that he CAN wrestle and for the Miz to make his memorable mark on the WrestleMania landscape.  Look for Cena to pull it out as this program continues into next month's "Extreme Rules".

MANIA MOMENT ALERT:   The Rock will Rock-Bottom John Cena and begin the hype for their inevitable showdown at a later venue

Winner and New WWE Champion:  John Cena
