WrestleMania 27 Predictions: 10 Things We Will Learn at Sunday's Pay-Per-View
We are just over two days away from the WWE's biggest pay-per-view of the year, the showcase of the immortals; WrestleMania 27.
There have been some grumblings of this year's show not living up to the hype of the past events, however, that was before was witnessed the returns of The Rock, Stone Cold Steve Austin and Trish Stratus. Now, the hype is as big as it always is during this great time of year.
So, I will tell you the 10 biggest things we are set to learn when WrestleMania goes live from the Georgia Dome in Atlanta, Georgia this Sunday night.
Enjoy!
10. Jerry Lawler Likes Beer
1 of 11
This feud began when Michael Cole cost Jerry Lawler the WWE Championship in December on Monday Night Raw against Cole's favorite Superstar, (at least at the time) The Miz. Since then, this has become this year's most hyped WrestleMania match.
Despite Cole getting the upper hand in recent weeks, we all know that WWE is going to give Jerry Lawler his WrestleMania moment. We also know that Michael Cole (and probably Jack Swagger) will eat a Stunner at the hands of the special guest referee, Stone Cold Steve Austin.
After the match ends, we'll see Jerry Lawler, Steve Austin and perhaps Good Ol' JR share some beer.
9. Celebrities Never Lose at WrestleMania
2 of 11
We have seen many celebrities participate in matches at WrestleMania, and I'm pretty sure none of them have ever lost. Well, I'm going to say Snooki will continue that streak this Sunday.
This match can easily be separated into two parts: John Morrison and Dolph Ziggler in the ring and then the divas. Morrison and Ziggler are both tremendous in-ring workers and should be able to put on a good show. However, the divas will most likely mess this thing up.
I know, Trish Stratus is involved, but she is going to have ring rust after only competing in one match in a number of years. Both members of LayCool are good, but they've had their share of bad matches as well. And then, Snooki. Do I even need to start?
Snooki's involvement guarantees two things: More attention by news outlets like TMZ and a win for the faces in this six-person mixed tag team match.
8. The WWE Has Big Plans for The Corre
3 of 11
The Corre has been booked as a dominate stable on SmackDown, even more dominant than Wade Barrett's original stable, The Nexus.
In case you don't watch SmackDown, this stable consists up four up-and-comers in Wade Barrett, Ezekiel Jackson, Justin Gabriel and Heath Slater.Meanwhile, the opponents are The Big Show, Kane, Santino Marrella and Vladimir Kozlov. Basically, The Corre will be facing two older guys who have no problem putting over younger talent and a comedy duo.
So as I implied earlier, I believe The Corre wins here and continues its dominant reign atop the WWE's B-Show.
7. "The Celtic Warrior" Is Back and Better Than Ever
4 of 11
This is the hardest match to predict at this year's WrestleMania, but I am going to have to pick Sheamus.
Sheamus just became the United States Champion a few weeks ago, after getting past his funk at the beginning of the year, which we can attribute to backstage politics. He first won the King of the Ring tournament, and then proceeded to dress in possibly the goofiest ring attire we have ever seen and lose almost every match he was in. Sheamus even jobbed to jobbers Mark Henry and Evan Bourne.
I think Vince McMahon looks at Sheamus as a more credible champion than Daniel Bryan. Plus, it's better to not play hot potato for a title that is already lacking prestige.
6. Cody Rhodes Is a Star in the Making
5 of 11
I realize that in the past, Rey Mysterio has had problems with putting over younger talents. Just look at Dolph Ziggler and CM Punk. However, Cody Rhodes was Mysterio's handpicked opponent for WrestleMania.
This has had a pretty good build-up which began with Rey Mysterio breaking Cody Rhodes' nose, and ruining his "dashing" image in the process.
In his return, Rhodes would begin supporting a mask after reconstructive facial surgery. His gimmick has changed from a narcissistic heel to a psychopath heel.
I believe that this feud has some legs, so Rhodes picks up the win on his road to WWE stardom.
5. Randy Orton Has Reached John Cena's SuperMan Level
6 of 11
Many complain about John Cena and Rey Mysterio being booked as superheroes. Well, you can add Randy Orton to that list.
Look, Randy Orton has had an "injured" knee in the past couple of weeks. So as the face, of couse he is going to overcome the odds and win the match.
As far as the match goes, I could easily see this being the best match of night, if Orton doesn't sell the knee injury from start to finish.
4. The Undertaker Will Still Be Undefeated
7 of 11
Raise your hand if you think Triple H will end The Undertaker's undefeated streak at WrestleMania.
No hands? That's what I thought.
The outcome of this match is obvious. The only question here is, how does it end?
With Shawn Michaels' history with both of these guys and his recent involvement in this feud, will he get involved in this match?
Well, I think he will.
I see Triple H having the upper hand in this one, and it will look as if he is about to win the match, until The Heartbreak Kid runs out. HBK will super kick Triple H, costing his best friend the match.
The following night on Raw, it will be explained that Shawn Michaels was too jealous to allow the streak to be broken by Triple H, since he couldn't break the streak himself.
3. Christian Will Turn on Edge
8 of 11
Christian is expected to be in Edge's corner, when The "Rated-R Superstar" takes on the Mexican elitist and rising star, Alberto Del Rio.
There are a couple reasons why I believe Del Rio becomes the new World Heavyweight champion here:
1. Edge's future with the WWE has been in question. So why would the WWE ruin a chance to put over Alberto Del Rio against a guy who may not be in the WWE a couple years down the road?
2. It's the perfect opportunity to turn Christian heel and have a feud that almost everybody wants to see: Edge vs. Christian.
As I stated above, I think Christian costs Edge this match, turning heel and beginning a feud with Edge.
As far as Del Rio goes, look for him to have a new challenger for his newly-won championship.
2. The "Era of Awesomeness" Isn't Over Yet
9 of 11
I don't think John Cena will win at WrestleMania! However, I'll get to why in the next slide. But for now, let's focus on the WWE Champion, The Miz.
The Miz has been champion since cashing in his Money In The Bank briefcase in November. That makes him the longest reigning champion in the WWE today. He has had his share of clean and dirty wins, although mostly dirty, but he's supposed to be a cowardly heel.
The Miz has done an excellent job of staying relevant during the whole John Cena vs. Rock ordeal. Well after this Sunday, I think he'll have a new challenger for the WWE Championship.
As for Cena...
1. The Rock Will Get His Revenge on John Cena
10 of 11
When The Rock and John Cena war of words began, I was one of many people who thought that after Cena won at WrestleMania, they'd hug it out as WrestleMania went off the air. However, I have since changed my mind.
I think that this past Raw solidified that it will get physical between these two at WrestleMania. In fact, I believe that John Cena will be on the receiving end of a Rock Bottom. This will either cost Cena his match or be after the match, but Cena isn't winning either way.
I also think that The Rock and Cena will have a match sometime in the near future. This could result in the long awaited heel turn of Mr. Fruity Pebbles himself, John Cena.
