College Football Pick'em: The 10 Best Games of Week 6

Jason EllisOct 3, 2008

Welcome to another rendition of College Football Pick’em.  Hopefully, this week will be better than the last, where I was 5-5 for the second time this season, bringing the overall record to 33-17.

The upsets took their toll on the pick’em record.  It can’t happen two weeks in a row, or can it?

Either way, I’ll keep coming at you like your girlfriend when she’s mad at you.  Without further blah, blah from me, here are your 10 best games for Week 6 in college football.

*Game of the Week*

No. 15 Ohio State at No. 19 WisconsinWinner: Wisconsin, 24-20.  Last week's debacle at Michigan only serves to fire up the Badgers.  A freshman quarterback getting his second start at Camp Randall is not an appealing thought. The Badger faithful will be “Jumping Around” well after the third quarter.

No. 23 Oregon at No. 10 Southern CaliforniaWinner: USC, 38-24.  The Trojans rebound nicely against the Ducks.  USC is a tough team to play when you have issues at the quarterback position.  The USC team, wins but the defense gives up more points than they should.

No. 13 Auburn at No. 18 Vanderbilt:  Winner: Vanderbilt, 17-14.  Vandy is undefeated and in first place in the SEC East.  No, this isn’t the “Twilight Zone,” it’s for real at the moment. They make the most of this opportunity and beat the Tigers with a late field goal.

No. 4 Missouri at NebraskaWinner: Missouri, 41-21.  The Tigers' video game-like offense gets its first win in Lincoln since 1978.  Missouri scores early, often, and never looks back.

Florida State at Miami (FL):  Winner: Miami, 24-21.  This game will be nip-and-tuck all the way, similar to the old games in this rivalry.  The ‘Canes take the lead with a late touchdown and the ‘Noles cannot respond.

No. 22 Connecticut at North CarolinaWinner: North Carolina, 27-20.  Both teams have injuries to their starting quarterbacks.  The ‘Heels piggy-back off the momentum from last week's win against Miami and nip the Huskies.

No. 5 Texas at ColoradoWinner: Texas, 35-24.  Colorado is always good for an upset bid, especially at home.  They just don’t do it here. Colt McCoy and the ‘Horns prove to be too much for the much improved Buffs.

No. 12 Florida at ArkansasWinner: Florida, 45-10.  Wow, I said it last week and I’ll say it again here, I would hate to be Arkansas right now.  The Gators win big coming off last week's loss at Ole Miss.

The Razorbacks have been taken to the woodshed more times this season than an unruly child.  For the last two weeks, they have been lining the pigs up. This week, they go to the slaughterhouse. The next appearance for the Razorbacks will be on a breakfast table near you.

Duke at Georgia Tech:  Winner: Georgia Tech, 17-10.  No, this is not a preseason hoops pick; Duke is actually a decent team with a 3-1 record.  So I thought I’d give them a little love and put them in the pick’em.  That doesn’t mean I am going to pick them, however.  Tech proves to be a little too much here.

Kentucky at No. 2 AlabamaWinner: Alabama, 35-10.  The Tide keeps rolling here, UK’s defense is supposed to be good but not this week.  ‘Bama hits them in the mouth early and often.

There you have it: your ten best games of the week.  Hopefully, this week will be as exciting as the last.  Grab your favorite beverage, fire up the grill, and enjoy the games.
