Aqib Talib: Beginning of the End for the Bucs Bad Behavior Poster Child

Tom EdringtonMar 30, 2011

Young, dumb and wealthy.

Young for now. Wealthy for the time being. Dumb? Well, that's been a way of life for the Tampa Bay Buccaneer cornerback known as Aqib Talib.

By now you've seen everywhere the demands for Talib's head-on-a-platter. Cut the dastardly cur. Run his gun-firing, cabbie-smacking butt out of town demands virtually everyone who covers the team, the Tampa Tribune, St. Pete Times, JoeBucsFan.com, ESPN's Pat Yasinkas et al.

The more you read about the Great Texas Gunfight there in Garland last week, the uglier it gets, the worse it gets.

Mark Dominik said he's "deeply disturbed," and that should be an understatement by the boss of every player on the Buccaneer roster.

Deeply disturbed? How about, "I can't believe what a dumbass we've got on our hands. This guy has driven us nuts and now he's really gone too far!" You know that's what Dominik is really thinking, even as he came up with the "deeply disturbed" line for the record.

But let's get something straight up front. The Buccaneers most likely WILL NOT have to do anything whatsoever about Talib.

Why, you ask?

Well, if and when the time comes, if and when this hissy-spat between the players and owners is resolved, the Commish is going to step in on this one. No need for Mark Dominik or Raheem Morris to enter anything on the waiver wire.

The Commish will handle this. You see, the Commish hates stuff like this, doesn't like or want to have any empathy for the likes of Talib.

Suspension? Bet on it. Big time suspension? Very likely.

If Big Ben can get six games (later reduced to four) for not even getting himself arrested, what lies in store for Talib? A year, no doubt.

If you were well hidden somewhere in Dominik's office today, you'd probably find out that the Bucs are plotting a strategy for a 2011 season without Talib, if there is a 2011 season and at least two or three owners, including Joel Glazer, are guaranteeing us there will be one.

No, they won't have to cut Talib. He'll be on the "inactive because he's too stupid to follow the rules" list along with our other moron, Tanard Jackson.

Perhaps, he and Jackson can room together.

Perhaps, Talib could end up sharing a jail cell with his mother.

That's one of the most disturbing pieces of this puzzle. There's momma Talib, pulling out her own 9mm and firing off shots at the fleeing boyfriend of her daughter. And we come to find out that mamma Talib is a felon and she's got a gun?

You look at that and perhaps it's obvious why Talib is who he is. He's gun-toting, mamma's gun-toting son.

Cut Talib? Don't bother, waste of time. In fact, the Buccaneer owners have already cut those responsible for bringing Talib to Tampa. And that would be the dynamic duo of Bruce Allen and Jon Gruden. So blame Talib on those two.

If memory serves correctly, it was Bruce Allen who told South Florida's gem of a cornerback, Mike Jenkins, that he would be a Buccaneer that year, not Talib.

Jenkins is in Texas, not firing guns, but living happily as a Dallas Cowboy.

So what is it that Raheem tells us? Next man up?

Get someone ready at corner opposite Ronde Barber.

Because Talib(an) ain't gonna be there.

Bet on it.
