WWE WrestleMania 27 Odds: Breaking Down Each Match

Joe M.Jun 7, 2018

The biggest event of the wrestling year less than one week away, and it looks as though we have a final card for WrestleMania XXVII.

WWE has pulled out all the stops this year, from The Rock, to Snooki, to Stone Cold, to Undertaker vs. Triple H and this Sunday we will undoubtedly see an amazing WrestleMania.

We've got a huge nine-match card, so let's get down to business: breaking down each and every match on the card and predicting a winner.

Always, read though and feel free to post a comment below!

United States Championship: Sheamus (c) vs. Daniel Bryan

1 of 9

Daniel Bryan is one of, if not the, most gifted in-ring performers ever to enter a wrestling ring.  He was the reigning United States Champion for nearly six months, but only two weeks ago was defeated by Sheamus for the mid-card Championship.

Why WWE has put Sheamus, a superstar who they invested so much in, and was able to get so over as a heel in the main event scene and become a two-time WWE Champion, in a mid-card match for the United States Championship is confusing, but it is happening none-the-less.

Regardless of the status of the two participants, the match should wind up impressing most fans, as both Sheamus and Bryan can carry a very nice match.

But how can Sheamus possibly loose?  It would be great to see Daniel Bryan have his WrestleMania moment, but how can WWE have a two-time WWE Champion and someone who will most likely be back in the main event scene in the near future loose at WrestleMania?  Good booking here would be to let Daniel Bryan carry the match and impress everyone, but in the end have Sheamus, go over Bryan.  While Daniel Bryan may deserve a push, having Sheamus loose can destroy him as a main eventer and completely undo the year of work WWE invested in establishing him.

Trish Stratus, Snooki, and John Morrison vs. LayCool and Dolph Ziggler

2 of 9

John Morrison is great in the ring.

Dolph Ziggler can also carry a match.

LayCool is the most legitimate thing to come out of the WWE Divas division in years.

And Trish Status is one of the best divas of all time.

Snooki... is known for getting drunk, fist pumping, and going into the smush room.

It's just hard to take this match seriously when we all know it is going to end with Snooki leaping onto someone (possibly giving them herpes) and pulling their hair out looking like an uncoordinated oompa loompa.

Celebrities have always been a huge part of WrestleMania, and Snooki is famous, but they are using her in the wrong capacity.

Other than the whole Snooki deal, though, this should actually be an okay match with some nice action from Dolph and Morrison and Trish Stratus and LayCool.  There is no way LayCool and Dolph can actually win, though.  The team of the John Morrison, Trish Stratus (a WWE Divas Legend) and Snooki (a celebrity) will win without a doubt.

Snooki is just weighing this match down, but hey, at least we know she can take a punch.

Kane, Big Show, Vladimir Kozlov, and Santino Marella vs. The Corre

3 of 9

There is nothing like killing two birds with one stone, if it is done properly.  WWE tried to get The Corre, Kane, Big Show and Santino (comic relief) all onto the card in one shot and it couldn't have failed in a bigger way.

Sure, you have the underlying feuds of Marella and Kozlov vs. Gabriel and Slater and Kane and Big Show vs. Jackson and Barrett, but anything that prompts the 7-foot, 300+ pound monster known as Kane to parade around the ring playing an imaginary trumpet is not good.

Kane should not be involved with the comic relief, and neither should Barrett, a semi-main eventer who revived a huge push in 2010 and is quickly dying out due to WWE's inability to book him properly on Smackdown.

The issue is if Santino (the comic relief) looses, then Kane and Big Show also loose and if Santino (still the comic relief) wins then The Corre looses.  Either way, bad booking is taking place.  The lesser of the two evils is The Corre winning, though.  That way The Corre gains momentum and isn't squished.  Plus, Kane and The Big Show are seasoned veterans who should have no probably giving the younger talent their time in the spotlight.

Cody Rhodes vs. Rey Mysterio

4 of 9

Other than the ridiculous Hannibal Lector mask Rhodes has been wearing, this match has been built up to quite nicely.  From the involvement of Dusty Rhodes to having Cody himself beat down Mysterio.

WWE should be putting their younger talent over, as in have Cody Rhodes win, but last year WWE had no problem having Randy Orton defeat both Cody Rhodes and Ted DiBiase.

While Rhodes should win this, and hopefully WWE makes the right booking move and has Rhodes defeat Rey, more than likely we'll see Mysterio defeat Rhodes by crushing in his now-surgically-modified "dashing" face with a 619.

Randy Orton vs. CM Punk

5 of 9

How can this not be a great match?  Randy Orton is great, CM Punk is great, therefore one would have to believe they can pull off an awesome WrestleMania match.

Hopefully WWE gives this one enough time on the card, because this has the potential to be the Steamboat vs. Savage of WrestleMania 27.  A match that may not look like a stellar main event, but ends up stealing the show.

The build up has been played out perfectly by WWE, from having Orton decimate the New Nexus, to having CM Punk use his awesome mic skills to cut promos and get personal with Orton by attacking his tour bus that had his wife inside.

Given the build to this match, and the fact that CM Punk had the upper hand going into WrestleMania, we'll most likely see Orton walk out of WrestleMania the winner.

As a trivia note, during the build-up to Orton vs. Triple H at WrestleMania 25, WWE did a segment "in Orton's house" where he was being interviewed and his "wife" was sitting next to him.  It was reported online that Orton's wife was played by Laura Croft (not Orton's real wife).  The lady in the bus was someone else.  Looks like Orton gets around, hopefully Snooki doesn't find out or WrestleMania may get pretty messy.

Jerry Lawler vs. Michael Cole (w/ Jack Swagger) with Stone Cold as the Referee

6 of 9

If WWE plays this out right, it can be entertaining.

They can't have Michael Cole do too much wrestling, and quite frankly, this should be a squash match that sees Michael Cole get decimated in under 10 minutes by Jerry Lawler.  Anything more than that and this segment can go up in flames.

The main concern here should be that Booker T will be leading the announce team!  I don't think anyone has understood one word he's said since debuting on Smackdown.

Oh yeah, and we'll also need to see a Stunner before the night is over, but that's what Swagger is there for.

As long as this remains a shorter segment and ends with Cole and Swagger being Stunned and Austin and Lawler celebrating with beer, then this will be fun to watch.

Edge (c) (w/ Christian) vs. Alberto Del Rio (w/ Brodus Clay)

7 of 9

WWE is apparently so opposed to actually putting Christian in a main event match, that would rather just stick him the corner of the Champion to play cheerleader.

Christian should be the third man in the match, not only in Edge's corner, but a third match participant.  Brodus Clay, by the way, should not even be in the picture here.  I'm all for giving young talent shots, but let's not be stupid, he just graduated from a WWE.com web series and now he is part of the main event of WrestleMania?  Kofi Kingston and Evan Bourne are left of the card, but Brodus Clay isn't?  Come on... bad booking.

The match itself could probably be a nice match, though.  Edge is a great worker and Del Rio, in his own right, is a great in-ring wrestler.  While this isn't the biggest draw on the card by any means, it certainty deserves some credibility.

It's been said many times in this article alone, but "good booking" would be to have the younger talent win to establish them, however WWE has a history of not making the right booking decision (i.e. WrestleMania 26 when Randy Orton squashed not one, but two bright up-and-comers in just over 10 minutes).

It's possible Christian costs Edge the World Heavyweight Championship and that leads to a feud between the two, or possibly he helps Edge get the win and therefore is given a shot at the title himself.  The possibilities here, with all the variables in this match are endless.

The most likely scenario, however, is that Edge walks out of WrestleMania XXVII still the World Heavyweight Champion.

WWE Championship: The Miz (c) vs. John Cena

8 of 9

Notice how The Rock was not mentioned in the title of this slide.  That is because he still has no official involvement with this match.

Now, that may change before the match, but it's looking more and more likely that The Rock's involvement will, in fact, be unofficial.

Raw ended with The Rock giving The Miz a People's Elbow and then getting an Attitude Adjustment himself.  Why, though, would WWE have The Rock throw The Miz out of the ring after The People's Elbow instead of doing a Rock Bottom?  It's for one reason: WWE wants that Rock Bottom to be the pinnacle of The Rock's WWE return.  The pinnacle of his return, obviously, would happen not on Raw, but at WrestleMania.

So, that would go to say that at WrestleMania we will see The Rock give somebody (John Cena), or maybe even two somebodies, a Rock Bottom.

But The Rock currently has no official involvement in the match, which means that this is going to be a straight-up, one-on-one, WWE Championship Match.  No third man, no guest referees, no special ringside enforcers, but just a normal match.

That match, though, can turn out to be better than most would expect.  While neither Cena or The Miz are amazing in the ring, the build up of this match can carry it straight through WrestleMania until we see that Rock Bottom.

Here comes the "good booking" mention, again.  The Miz should win, to establish himself as a concrete main eventer, however it is also possible John Cena ends up walking out of Atlanta the WWE Champion.  Or maybe crawling out, because there is no way Cena is not getting Rock Bottom'ed.

No Holds Barred Match: The Undertaker vs. Triple H

9 of 9

The "No Holds Barred" stipulation may turn out to be nothing more than an insurance policy to give 'Taker and Hunter time to work outside of the ring, and it doesn't necessarily mean we'll see flaming tables and barbed wire sticks.  Well, we wouldn't see those things anyway (not PG), but we may not even see a chair.

This match should be amazing, though, and can certainly go down as one of the best matches of all time.

Triple H and The Undertaker are two legends and anytime they are in the same ring, only good things can happen.

While there is no way Triple H breaks The Streak, we're all in for a treat with this match.  While is may be hard to The Undertaker to follow his matches with Shawn Michaels at WrestleMania 25 and 26, if there is one wrestler who would be able to work with 'Taker to put on a great match, that guy would be Triple H.
