Brett Favre and His Return: Does Anyone Want the Old Gunslinger Anymore?

Carlos SandovalMar 29, 2011

Amidst the NFL lockout, there isn't a ton of news coming out. No trades have been made, no mini-camps scheduled, no free agency, nothing. Zilch. Nada.

So, why not talk about the most reliable topic every offseason for the past 324 years? That's right, I'm talking about Brett Friggin' Favre.

In case you didn't know, there were some pretty illegitimate rumors going around that he'd become a Carolina Panther, which would be hilarious considering he is horribly banged up, and the Panthers were crap last year.

After that got squashed, and the NFL blogosphere was re-awakened, it got everyone to thinking...would anyone want Favre, if he were to come back?

The answer? Yes, always.

That answer doesn't apply to a similar question—"Would Brett Favre still be an effective quarterback?"—but it still speaks volumes about the dude's value. Even if you realize Favre isn't a good quarterback at this age, he's still a valuable marketing tool, and sticking him in your lineup is sure to fill stadium seats even at the most woeful of venues. He's a legend, and people pay to see legends, even if they've been around since the beginning of time, and then some.

So what are some teams that do want him? To start, the Arizona Cardinals would like some of the extra revenue Favre would bring, and bringing in a ridiculously seasoned quarterback of any age and that level would be an upgrade from the scrubs they currently have at quarterback. Plus, old people like to retire in Arizona, since it's hot. Good fit.

The Washington Redskins might want Favre, too. This wouldn't make sense, considering the Shanahans are all about winning, and the 'Skins have a plethora of talent to work with, but that never mattered to Dan Snyder—he treats his teams like an online fantasy club.

The Seattle Seahawks could be another option. They actually need a good quarterback—sorry, Matt Hasselbeck isn't the go-to guy he was four years ago—and the team just got to the playoffs. Still, the Seahawks don't have an awesome offensive line, or an awesome anything for that matter. But if they want him, and Favre can't go anywhere else if he wants to return, it makes sense.

What do you think? Does Favre want to come back? If he does, who wants him? Should he come back?
