WWE WrestleMania 27: What Should the Match Order Be?

Angel CervantesJun 7, 2018

Excitement is in the air as the WrestleMania XXVII card is finally set.

Now that it is set, another question has arose. What will the match order be? What should it be?

In this article/slideshow, I will provide you with what I believe should be the match order. Feel free to agree or disagree with me in the comment section. Here we go:

Rey Mysterio Vs. Cody Rhodes

1 of 9

Mysterio should be the first person to come out at WrestleMania (except for maybe The Rock since he is the guest host).

Mysterio and this match would get the crowd off to a hot start. People would say, ‘Oh, well Mysterio is curtain jerking,’ but starting off WrestleMania is a pretty big deal.

Whoever starts off the show has the responsibility of getting the crowd into it and this match can do just that.

8-Man Tag Team Match

2 of 9

Sure this might be a big mess but it can still be entertaining.

As much of a joke Santino is, he still gets great crowd reaction so the men involved in this match can keep the crowd involved.

I look at this match much like the WrestleMania 17 match involving the APA and Taz vs. The Right to Censor. It can be fun, keep the crowd into it and perhaps get The Corre and Wade Barrett over.

U.S. Championship Match

3 of 9

As much as people sometimes hate to admit, Sheamus gets heat. Having him come out first will instantly get people to root for underdog Daniel Bryan.

Sheamus is no slouch in the ring so given the proper time, which I doubt they will get, these two can put on a great match. Their match on Raw was a nice example of what these men can do against each other.

Now, here’s to hoping this match gets more time than their Raw encounter did.

Randy Orton Vs. CM Punk

4 of 9

Some might say that this match deserves to go on later in the night, but I think it would be perfect in this spot.

After the crowd somewhat cooled down with the U.S. title match, these two can come out and tear the roof off. The crowd would be red hot for both Orton and Punk.

My only concern with this match now is Orton selling the leg injury. I really hope it doesn’t result in a one-sided beat down from Punk with Orton hulking up at the end. This should be a back-and-forth match that hopefully is not slowed down by the ‘injury.’

Jerry Lawler Vs. Michael Cole

5 of 9

As much as this match will be overbooked, it needs it.It’s not going to be a wrestling clinic by any means but it can sure as hell be entertaining.

The crowd loves Austin so will definitely be into anything he does. They also want to see Michael Cole finally get his and that’s exactly what they should get from this match.

Throw in a couple stunners at the conclusion of the match and everyone should be happy.

World Championship Match

6 of 9

Up next is the World Title Match. Now, WWE might actually put this match before the Cole-Lawler match but this is my opinion and I feel like this is where it should go.

The red hot crowd would take a minute to catch their breath following the hot Orton-Punk and Cole-Lawler matches but as soon as Del Rio’s or Edge’s music hits, they’ll be ready to keep the hot streak going.

With Christian being in his former partner’s corner, the crowd will have another reason to be into the match. The in-ring action between Del Rio and Edge should kick everything into a higher level.

The Undertaker Vs. Triple H

7 of 9

Now, these two men don’t need any extra help to get the crowd into their match. Triple H and Taker have always been super over so the crowd will eat up anything they do.

Throw in Shawn’s possible involvement and the crowd reaction should reach a fever pitch.

Yes it’ll be hard to top this match, but as over as the two men are, it’s not exactly Rock vs. Hogan or Taker vs. HBK so it can be done.

Mixed-Tag Match

8 of 9

Yes, I realize I’m placing this match extremely high. I do think the match would be perfect in this position, serving as a buffer between the Taker-HHH match and the WWE Title Match.

The crowd will surely be exhausted following the previous match(es) so this is a good way to keep them into Mania while not risking the crowd not being fully into the main event.

Vickie, Laycool and Snooki should generate plenty of heat while Morrison, Ziggler and Trish should generate plenty of thrills.

This match reminds me of the mixed tag match at Mania 14 when Sable was insanely over. As much as everyone is sh*tting on this match, much like that match, I think it will surprise and can be very entertaining.

WWE Championship Match

9 of 9

A World Title Match should always close the show. The title is the goal everyone aspires to reach and it is why they all do what they do.

Throw in The Rock’s possible physical involvement in the match and you have all the necessary ingredients needed for the match to deliver.

Sure, many people will never fully buy The Miz as a legitimate threat or main-eventer and will say that Miz main-eventing WrestleMania is blasphemous, but at this point he has proved he belongs and that he can hang with the big boys.

Regardless of the outcome of the match, a Cena win or loss, this match should close the show.

The WWE Title should never have to take a back seat to anything or anyone.
