Ultimate Fighter 13: Lesnar Talks About TUF, Cain and a Meeting With Undertaker
Brock Lesnar has been a very private man throughout his career, so when he decided to take on coaching the 13th installment of The Ultimate Fighter many people took this as a chance to see what the real Lesnar is like.
In an interview with MMA Fighting's Ariel Helwani, Lesnar opened up about a lot. First and foremost he was asked about the fight with Cain Velasquez that saw him relinquish his UFC heavyweight belt after a long layoff because he developed diverticulitis.
"I just actually watched the fight, a week ago, and wasn't sure how to approach it, and I think it boils down to last year I had a lot going on in my life; I fought through diverticulitis, made my comeback, fought Shane Carwin and then fought Cain Velasquez. As I watched the fight I could see that I wasn't able to overcome Cain's you know, I don't really know what happened," Lesnar said laughingly. "He beat my a-- that's what happened. If I put it that way."
Velasquez came into the October (Or should I say "Brocktober") 23rd match on an eight-fight win streak and left with the UFC heavyweight belt and a perfect 9-0 career MMA record. Velasquez won by TKO in Round 1 against Lesnar.
"It's one of those things, I don't like to lose, and you dust yourself off and get back on the horse and here I am," Lesnar said.
Lesnar also talked about the media speculation that filled up the internet stating that he would be walking away from the UFC after his loss to Velasquez.
"It never really crossed my mind. I mean what people really don't understand is that last year I had a lot of things that, you know, happened in one year. From being sick, to being on my deathbed, having another child, fighting two title fights, I was completely exhausted. I needed to take a lot of time out and get away from the spotlight, and now I'm able to come back, I feel very refreshed and no I never, it never crossed, I had to go back and analyze what I really wanted out of life," Lesnar said.
Lesnar also talked about walking by his fellow WWE wrestler, The Undertaker, after his loss to Velasquez.
"Yeah you know, I was a bit delirious, when I walked, you know obviously Cain put me on a street that I didn't know the name of. So I was looking for my way home, so I went out the Octagon and I heard Mark [The Undertaker] was gonna be there and once again, I enjoyed working with Mark in the ring, but me and him there were some things said that, and we have a mutual friend, and that kind of really p----- me off." Lesnar said.
Lesnar is a very reserved person. He trains and lives in the utmost secrecy. Getting on a show like The Ultimate Fighter is a step in the other direction that Lesnar isn't used to.
Helwani asked Brock what it was like to get out of that secrecy and be on a show like The Ultimate Fighter to train and be near the guy Lesnar would be fighting.
"I don't have any beef against Junior other then the mere fact that he's in my way to get a title shot," Lesnar said. "I didn't have much interaction with him, there were a few things, I got to discover that."
