New England Patriots: Pats Set to Take a Closer Look at Temple DT Wilkerson
The New England Patriots are set to meet with Temple defensive tackle Muhammad Wilkerson sometime this week to hold a private workout, according to NFL Network's Jason LaCanfora.
Wilkerson, who's one of the draft's better defensive tackles, is projected to go in the mid-to-late first round. However, in my recent mock draft, I have Wilkerson slotted at 18th overall going to the San Diego Chargers—one pick following New England.
At times last season, the Patriots were very thin along the defensive line, and they could definitely use some quality, versatile players to fill in if injuries strike any linemen.

Rookie WRs Who Will Outplay Their Draft Value 📈
Strengths
The one attribute that definitely stands out to Patriots head coach Bill Belichick is Wilkerson's versatility—he can play any position on New England's 3-4 defensive line.
While being versatile, he's very athletic, which gives him the edge against other 300-lb defensive linemen.
Wilkerson is always in on every single play—he's got a real nose for the ball. He can get off of blocks quickly and plays at a low pad level, which gives him leverage adding to his already powerful strength.
Weaknesses
From a pass rushing standpoint, Wilkerson doesn't have too much of an arsenal or verity of moves. It appears that Wilkerson's lone and favorite move his just a simple bull rush, which he does productively.
One knock against Wilkerson is that he played at Temple and didn't necessarily face first-round talent.
Conclusion
As of late, Wilkerson's stock has been on the rise—I had him as a late first-round to an early second-round pick in my first mock draft a couple of weeks ago.
Wilkerson does have talent and potential and can bring a lot to the table.
The Patriots don't necessarily need a defensive tackle, as they already have Vince Wilfork and Ron Brace.
To me, I see Wilkerson playing as just another sub-package lineman, and on a level lower, talent-wise, than Brace.
With New England's 17th overall pick, I strongly believe that there are much better prospects available than Wilkerson. However, I wouldn't be surprised if Wilkerson is selected by New England with their 28th pick—if they don't trade out of it.
