TNA Analysis: Beer Money Inc. and MCMG: Burying TNA's Tag Team Division?
Now, before I explain, let me say, I'm a fan of both teams. I prefer Beer Money over The Guns, but I like both. That said, I'm getting the impression that these teams are slowly being over-pushed. I say over-pushed for lack of a better term.
My reasoning is as follows: When people talk about TNA's tag team division, who are the first names that come to mind? Beer Money and The Motor City Machine Guns. Not that it's a bad thing. At least not at first. Eventually though, it strikes me as a problem.
It's come to the point, in my mind, that The Motor City Machine Guns and Beer Money Inc. have become the John Cena and Randy Orton of TNA's tag team division. That is not a good thing for anyone. (Except the four members of these teams.)
Having two dominant teams like The Guns and Beer Money detracts from the attention that other teams receive. Who do people peg to beat Beer Money for the titles? Who's been booked strong enough to beat them? Certainly not Ink Inc. (no offense). Not Generation Me (again, no offense). Maybe, Crimson and Scott Steiner, but they've only had one match as a team, against Ink Inc.
TNA has to put more focus on the other teams in its tag team division. Yeah, The Guns and Beer Money are good, but they can't feud forever. A team is only as good as it's competition, and having the same competition, no matter what, can get stale at some point. It's not healthy to be dependent on any one (or in this case, two) things. TNA has done the same thing with Sting. Whenever they need a big name to main event and be champion, The Stinger is the first one they run to.
TNA has to make more of an effort to push more of its tag teams as legitimate contenders and champions. Ink Inc. has a lot of potential, as does Gen Me, but stop comparing them to The Guns. Yes, they have a similar high-flying style, but let them be their own team.
TNA should also make more of an effort to make more tag teams. Right now, they've about four or five solid teams. Not saying that's not a good number, but a lot of guys would make good tag team partners. Matt Hardy and Bully Ray, Suicide and Brian Kendrick, Mr. Anderson and The Pope. All could be great tag teams.
I'm not saying the division needs an overhaul, but let us try and put a bit more stock into the other teams in the division. Bill The Guns as able to lose cleanly to Gen Me. Have some team be able to beat Beer Money that isn't The Guns.
And so ends a rant that's been building for awhile now. Thanks for reading.
