NFL Trade Speculation: The 5 Most Likely Trade Scenarios Involving Kevin Kolb

Michael MillJun 7, 2018

Philadelphia Eagles fans continue to debate where Kevin Kolb will land if the current lockout comes to an end.

Currently, the team is unable to trade Kolb, but that hasn't stopped the speculation and rumors.

Sports Illustrated's Peter King has reported that one team has already said they would be willing to offer their first-round draft pick for Kolb.

It's unclear who that team is, but it's apparent that there will be a market for Kolb if he becomes available to trade.

Who is this mystery team?

Here are the five most likely trade scenarios involving Kolb.

5. Seattle Seahawks

Up until last night, I thought the team that offered their first-round pick was Seattle.

Apparently, that isn't the case.

A post on Twitter by Peter King says the team was not Seattle:

"Seahawks trading 25th pick for Kolb? ... I hear Seattle is NOT the team that has offered a 1 for Kolb".

If that's the case, it may be tough for Seattle to make an offer for Kolb.

It seems pretty obvious that the team that made the offer had to be one with a better standing in the draft than Seattle.

That means that if a trade were to happen, Seattle would likely have to give multiple picks or a pick and a player.

This really puts a damper on the possibility of Kolb going to Seattle.

4. San Francisco 49ers

I think this is the highest first-round pick the Eagles would be able to receive.

At eighth overall, the 49ers are just out of reach for Gabbert or Newton, and it's a little too early to go after Jake Locker.

That leaves Jim Harbaugh with the first tough coaching decision he will face.

Kevin Kolb or Alex Smith?

I'm not convinced that Harbaugh is going to give up on Smith. He has said all positive things about Smith when questioned by the media.

The 49ers are also in a situation where they could select Christian Ponder or Andy Dalton in the early second round.

This is a toss up. The trade could happen, but it depends on how Harbaugh feels about the team's current talent.

3. Jacksonville Jaguars

The Jaguars are a team that there hasn't been too much discussion around in regards to a trade for Kolb.

However, it seems like it could be a possibility.

The Jaguars have the 16th selection in this year's draft, which seems like a fair asking price for Kolb.

David Garrard has been publicly criticized by owner Wayne Weaver in the past. He is also turning 33 years old.

There are rumors that the Jaguars were interested in Kolb last year, but the asking price was too high.

Nothing is funny to Derek Anderson. I'm sure he won't be laughing if Kolb arrives in Arizona.

It seems like the majority believes this could be the landing spot for Kolb.

I have a hard time believing that Arizona would offer the fifth overall pick, but I suppose it is a possibility.

The team could easily take quarterback Blaine Gabbert or Cam Newton with that pick in the NFL Draft.

What seems like a more logical trade would be the team's second-round pick and a player.

The Eagles would receive the fifth pick of the second round, and maybe a player like cornerback Greg Toler. This could satisfy one of the key areas of need for Philadelphia as well.

The Cardinals would still have Dominique Rodgers-Cromartie and Michael Adams, so the trade would work out on both ends.

1. Minnesota Vikings

The Vikings just got rid of one No. 4, and could be bringing in another.

It's all speculation, but the Vikings seem like the team that may have offered the first-round pick.

At 12th overall, the Vikings will have no chance of getting Gabbert or Newton. Locker may still be there, but is he a better choice than Kolb?

Leslie Frasier has made it clear that quarterback is the position he is focused on. It comes down to a choice between Locker or Kolb.

The Jamestown Sun quotes Frasier saying the following about Kolb:

“He’s a good young quarterback. There’s a reason that they had him slated as the No. 1 guy going into training camp and they made the trade letting Donovan move on."

It seems like the right move for the Vikings, and the Eagles would get great compensation with the 12th overall pick.
