Reggie Bush: Do the New Orleans Saints Really Want Him Back?

Joye PruittMar 25, 2011

Do you really want Reggie Bush back on the field?

The answer is: Of course you do. No true New Orleans football fan will dare to express anything different, and with great reason. With Bush matched with quarterback savior Drew Brees, the Saints have had two NFC Championship appearances, one of which was won by the Saints and one that was lost to the Chicago Bears in 2007.

In any event, fans and analysts alike will admit that Bush has that factor that puts a lot of people in the stadium to watch a team that rejuvenated a city that was hit with a massive disaster.

The Saints have been the town’s guiding light after Hurricane Katrina hit and Bush has been an active member of that brigade, putting everyone’s hopes on their backs, trucking through the madness to return to glory.

The bigger and more important question is, “With the lockout in place and no negotiations happening in an effort to keep both sides happy, how will his contract be tweaked in order for him to remain?”

Both ends of the stick understand that the terms of his contract will need to be renegotiated in order for him to continue his tenure with the team. I doubt that there will be a large margin of difference in what Bush feels his deserves and what the Saints are willing to pay him.

Bush has yet to live up to his potential at his position, and did not really fill in for the injured Chris Ivory during the postseason, but he will become more acclimated to the system that he is playing in and will prove that he belongs among the elite.

Who truly believes he does not?
