Dallas Cowboys: Does Deion Sanders Have Much Room to Criticize Dez Bryant?

Joye PruittMar 25, 2011

Deion Sanders ended his relationship with Dez Bryant during the summer, citing reasons that he felt Bryant would negatively influence the children in his program and that the receiver had not been entirely honest with Sanders, or himself for that matter.

All of the criticism would be all peaches and ice cream if it was not stemming from the king of controversy and extraordinary behavior during his own career in the NFL.

I do understand that as an older man and a retired football player, Sanders may have a little more insight on what the receiver should and should not be doing in order to be successful as an athlete and as a person in general.

Nevertheless, I do recall viewing a video of Deion Sanders rapping awkward lyrics with an open vest beside a pool in between a bevy of almost naked women.

His frustration with Bryant, who has an astronomical ceiling of potential, can be understood, however. On-field arrogance and showboating is one thing, but when your troubles spill into the legal aspect of the world, you need to be reminded how quickly everything can be taken away from you and how much you are not owed in this league.

So what does Dez Bryant need to do in order to get his career and image back on track? Well, first things first, mend fences with Deion Sanders. As much as it may seem like he bashed the young receiver and plans on keeping his distance from him, Sanders seems like all he wants is Bryant to acknowledge his issues.

Wide receivers have traditionally been the “playboys” and ultimate showmen in the league. That will probably never change. I would expect Sanders to understand that, take a look at his own past and realize that he had to grow into the man he is today and was not just born that way.
