UFC 94: Greatest Fight Card Ever? Take Two
This is a list of likely and possible fights:
George St. Pierre vs. BJ Penn: This is still one of the most anticipated fights in UFC history. It’s the one everyone wants to see. With a win, either fighter will solidify their spot as one of the best MMA fighters of all time. This fight will happen!
Lyoto Machida vs. Thiago Silva: Many fans may be rooting for Machida to lose this fight. This is due to what they consider his boring fight style. If he were to lose this fight he may lose all hope of ever getting a title shot. Silva is aggressive and will definitely push the pace against Lyoto. If Lyoto can dominate Silva perhaps he will do enough to finally get his title shot. Assuming Silva's injury heals on time this fight will happen.
Matt Serra vs. Matt Hughes: This fight needs to happen already. Both fighters have been dealing with injuries. If Hughes loses he will likely retire. Serra would love nothing more then to help facilitate that move. Barring injuries not healing this should happen. Hopefully they don't postpone it any longer.
Here are some other fights which aren’t being rumored yet but could definitely happen:
Anderson Silva vs. Nate Marquardt: Assuming Silva beats Cote at UFC 90 he will want another fight by the time this card comes around. He wants to fight every 2 to 3 months. Most of the other potential contenders seem to be occupied. Don’t be surprised if the UFC goes with Bisping for marketing reasons. However, I think they want to develop his skill set a bit longer.
Anderson Silva vs. Chuck Liddell: People either really want to see this fight of have no interest in it whatsoever. Either way it would surely bring in huge numbers. Since they already have such a huge card lined up this one may be overkill. This one might be saved for later or may not happen at all.
Nate Diaz vs. Roger Huerta: The lightweight division needs to be represented on this card and what better fight then to showcase to of the division’s most exciting & marketable fighters. Roger Huerta fought back at UFC 87 and is still fuming over his loss to Kenny Florian. Diaz is coming off a split decision to Josh Neer and needs to elevate his competition.
Roger Huerta vs. Clay Guida 2: The world needs to see Clay Guida fight and this would be the perfect opportunity to showcase this exciting fighter with limitless energy and a great heart. He is the Rudy of the UFC. A rematch would be very exciting.
Kenny Florian/Joe Stevenson vs. Sean Sherk/Tyson Griffin: The winner of Florian/Stevenson probably won’t be ready in time but you never know. The winner would have 11 weeks to heal up to fight on the biggest stage of their career. It would be intriguing to see this fight happen on this card because BJ Penn would get to see who he’d defend his lightweight title against, assuming he ever goes back to that division.
So no great commentary here. Just nine great fights that are likely, possibly, and hopefully going to happen on UFC’s biggest weekend ever.
