NFL Draft 2011: The Minnesota Vikings and 10 Teams Likely to Move in First Round
There are two quarterbacks that every team in need of a quarterback wants: Auburn's Cam Newton and Missouri's Blaine Gabbert.
However, there are more than two teams that need quarterbacks in the 2011 NFL Draft.
Therefore, there will be several teams that don't get the quarterback that they need.
That means there is the potential for a lot of upward movement on draft day.
The Minnesota Vikings, San Francisco 49ers and Washington Redskins all need new quarterbacks and aren't in a position to get either Gabbert or Newton.
The Carolina Panthers, Buffalo Bills and Arizona Cardinals are the front-runners to grab the potential star QBs.
So, look for the Vikings, 'Niners and 'Skins to explore possible trades to move up in the first round and grab QBs.
Here are the 10 teams most likely to make trades in the first round of the 2011 NFL Draft.
10. Miami Dolphins
1 of 10
The Dolphins appear to be the only team looking for running back talent in the first round.
Therefore, they can probably slide down a few spots and not have to worry about someone else drafting Mark Ingram.
But they can't trade out of the first round completely, because there will be some teams (Broncos) looking for help at running back in the second round.
9. Houston Texans
2 of 10
The top two cornerbacks in this year's draft are Patrick Peterson and Prince Amukamara.
Peterson is probably a top-three pick, and Amukamara is going to the Cowboys at No. 9 in almost every mock draft.
After those two, the talent levels drop off.
The Texans, with the 11th pick, are in a bit of a no-man's land.
They can either trade down and try to get Jimmy Smith at a more reasonable spot or try to trade into the top seven to grab Amukamara.
8. Tennessee Titans
3 of 10
The Titans are still in need of someone to replace Albert Haynesworth.
There are two guys who can have that impact in this year's draft: Nick Fairley and Marcell Dareus.
But Fairley will be a top-three pick, and I don't see Dareus falling to No. 8.
So the Titans might have to move up a couple spots to grab Dareus if they really want him.
7. Pittsburgh Steelers
4 of 10
The Steelers love what they have gotten from Maurkice Pouncey. It makes sense that they'd want his brother, too.
But there's a chance Mike Pouncey won't be around when the Steelers are on the clock with the 31st pick.
They'll probably need to move into the mid-20s if they want to have a shot of drafting Mike.
6. Green Bay Packers
5 of 10
Yes, the Packers just won the Super Bowl.
But that doesn't mean they won't be active in this year's draft.
General Manager Ted Thompson loves to build through the draft and would love to add another piece to the Packers' offensive line.
With plenty of first-round talent available at offensive tackle, I wouldn't put it past Thompson to move up a few slots to try to grab a guy like Wisconsin's Gabe Carimi.
5. Baltimore Ravens
6 of 10
If Jimmy Smith falls into the middle of the first round, some teams might get antsy and try to move up to get him.
One of those teams is the Baltimore Ravens. They need some help at cornerback.
Therefore, they might try to jump in front of the Seattle Seahawks in order to draft Smith.
4. Carolina Panthers
7 of 10
If the Panthers decide that they want a guy like Da'Quan Bowers, they can probably move down a few spots to get him.
There will be plenty of teams trying to move up to get a quarterback, so the Panthers are in a good spot whether they decide to draft a quarterback or not.
Ultimately, they'll probably pick a QB, but at least they have options.
3. Washington Redskins
8 of 10
The Redskins are probably just outside of the range in which they can get a top-tier QB.
I don't foresee either Newton or Gabbert being around at No. 10.
If the Redskins really don't want another year of Donovan McNabb, they should try to trade up into the top five so they can grab a potential franchise QB.
2. San Francisco 49ers
9 of 10
The Panthers, Bills and Cardinals all need quarterbacks. And they all draft before the 49ers in the first round.
The Bills will probably take a stud defensive player in the first round, but the Panthers and Cardinals appear to be leaning towards taking quarterbacks.
That means the 'Niners will need to make a move if they want a guy like Blaine Gabbert running their offense next season.
1. Minnesota Vikings
10 of 10
The Vikings have reportedly been courting both Newton and Gabbert quite heavily.
But there's no way either of them will still be on the board at No. 12.
They could try to wait until the second round to take a QB, but Locker, Mallett and maybe even Christian Ponder will be gone by the 12th pick in the second round.
Unless the Vikings want another year of Tarvaris Jackson, they need to make a move on draft day.
They stand to lose the most if they don't get an outstanding QB in the 2011 NFL Draft.
