New England Patriots: Bill Belichick Lone Coach Not Present at NFL Breakfast

Tony SantorsaMar 22, 2011

A 75-minute coaches breakfast was scheduled Tuesday for all 32 coaches in New Orleans, and only 31 out of those 32 were present. New England Patriots head coach Bill Belichick was a no-show at the Roosevelt Hotel, which is the host the NFL's annual meeting.

Why would Belichick play hooky on a media breakfast?

Well, for starters, it's a known fact that Belichick and the media aren't necessarily the closest knit bunch. Belichick is infamously known for giving simple, low detailed responses to the media, and the media is known for pestering Belichick for his lack of answers.

Some may speculate that Belichick is simply just an arrogant kind of guy. He could just be too good for the breakfast, of he just doesn't like eggs. Who knows?

Fellow AFC East head coach Chain Gailey was questioned about former Buffalo Bills' defensive lineman, now a Patriot, Marcus Stroud.

Gailey looked the media, and answered with a smirk on his face: "Ask Bill. He'll know."

CSNNE's Tom E. Curran reported earlier today that when he asked Belichick if he'd show up to the media breakfast and Belichick replied, in mid-season form, "We're day-to-day."

The media may blow this out of proportion, especially with the "bad blood" between the two, but it was just a media breakfast.

Maybe Belichick didn't want to deal with questions about safety Brandon Meriweather who has been involved in a shooting last month.

But, either way, who really cares? The last time I checked, Belichick was a three-time Super Bowl winning head coach— he must be doing something right.
